As I said in my longer post above people might not read, I’m fairly confident this game will borrow significantly from 12. They’re made by the same people. I’m also fairly confident the gambits will return but you’ll only be manually controlling Clive.

It's being lead by the man who made 14, not 12. Yoshida.
Maehiro did work on the battle system in 12 but he has been a writer for 14 and he is the main writer for this game.
And the Combat Director has never done a FF game. He is known for Dragons's Dogma and Devil May Cry. Combat should be nothing like 12

Aren’t the people who are responsible for creating Ivalice making this entry? I was talking about the game being a more mature political story that focuses on sociological story telling instead of psychological which most FF are. Only thing I expect it to take from 12s combat is some type of innovation on the gambit system as I think it’s unlikely we will have full control of any allies. The combat is far too complex looking to have it work like FF7 remake. It appears to me they’re using a ghost of Tsushima innovation with stances that change your move sets but the stances are the Eikons themselves.
I’m getting very strong FF tactics vibes from this game especially in its story. Also think it’s possible we could see a world of ruin situation like from FF6. They attempted this is 15 but not very well. The Jill character seems really important to me and it’s weird we hardly saw anything about her in the second trailer when she was in the first and one of the first 3 names and bios they released. Could be this games Delita or maybe Clives lover in the adult timeline.

No. The main writer is the guy who wrote Heavensward for 14.
Matsuno was the main writer for 12 (and the Ivalice universe) and he has nothing to do with this game. He doesn't even work for Square anymore, although he does freelance work for them sometimes. (None of the OG greats do anymore, but that's for another topic)
The game is going to be more mature and probably politically focused to an extent though. So they may be similar in a manner but it's not the same writers or project leads.
But as for combat, I would not expect it to be anything like 12. They brought in the lead combat designer of DMC5 for a reason. I expect this to be heavily action designed.

Thanks for the info, and yeah you call tell from the trailer it’s gonna be taken a bunch from Devil Maybe Cry 5 especially with the same combat director as you said. If you slow the combat down shown in the trailer frame by frames you can see boost for chain combos and other things but not sure how it will act. The yellow bars below Clives health I thought would be ATB at first but now it appears to be some type of limit break or maybe a summon meter. In the combat scene where he is attacking with ton of red blades for tons of 13 damage at a time you can see he’s in Odin stance and some sort of square is filling up as he is using it with Odin above it. I think the combat looks like a ton of fun especially with combat stances there Eikons and you can see Clives weapons switch in each one but that might just be for their special skills. In Odin he is using a red lance and Shiva a large frost axe. And the scene where he just up in the air he switches stances in mid jump to bring down a heavy aoe. It looks super badass to me.

I was wondering what you’re basing this on. Also xii was by yasumi matsuno and hiroyuki ito. Neither looks to be involved with this one

I gave an explanation above. Everything about this game shown so far screams an Ivalice style of story. Tactics looks like it’s more likely to borrow from than 12 in that regard as I thought about it
Posted on 6/7/22 at 5:32 am to td01241
I’m not reading all that. I skimmed through and it looked like you were speculating about a 40-50 hour game from a 3 minute trailer. If by “ivalice style of story” you mean medieval political intrigue then yeah I agree, that’s what it looks like to me. Matsuno was big in that with his writing but as I and others said, he’s not involved

He’s pretty well known for his novel posts

It was largely post about what we could glean from the Trailer and some interesting questions and propositions about what we see. You’re by no means to required to read it all but if you’re interested in talking about one of the most anticipated games that’ll hit PS5 it might make for good conversation. This is the gaming board….. lol

Not particularly. Usually if I have something I want to say in an OP I’ll write a paragraph. FF is my favorite series and I like what I’m seeing from this direction. That’s why I wrote a fairly long post bottom of page one but a majority of it is me taken things from a frame by frame of the trailer and putting out theory’s I think are interesting and thought some others would enjoy them or want to add. Is there something wrong with that?
Posted on 6/7/22 at 6:26 am to cfish140
And 4-5 threads on the first page have responses from me most are 1 sentence. One in the MH thread is about 3. Sorry for trying to spark something interesting to talk about. Y’all carry on

Just giving ya a hard time
I appreciate the discussion on what is a rather dead board. The only thing that garners any attention around here lately is generic FPS games and soulsbourne

Maehiro was a combat designer for FF12. And he had nothing to do with the story in tactics.
He is the lead writer for FF16 and has been a writer for FF14 for awhile now. Which is why Yoshi P gave him the job for this game, as Yoshi P was also his boss on that game. He created one of the more popular story lines in that game.
Yes, he has worked for square for awhile now. But only in smaller roles or as a combat director.
As for the Art Director, Minagawa, he has also been working for Yoshi P as Art Director on 14 for awhile now. But he did work on many games in the same capacity. 12 and tactics are some of them. He did fill in as Co-Director with Ito when Matsuno got sick on 12. So, you do have a point if the art is what you mean. I did not see the annoucement of Minagawa.

I wasn’t being a dick to you. Not the guy who cheersed me. I even thanked you because in my mind Yoshi P had been responsible for all of Ivalice. Well tactics and FF12. It was meant to the other guy

Speculating about a game from a 3 min trailer
Also I just saw this. I know i took a little liberty with how much I wrote and all considering the gaming board gets SOOOOO MUCH traffic. If you don’t wanna theory craft and talk about what you think some of things in the trailer mean and how it will go… then ya don’t have to. Crazy concept. The combat system is pretty formally in place id wage. That system is one where you control with items bonded to the dpad like in dark souls. basic layout seems square is jump triangle is fireball x is jump and I assume O is the dodge. It’s also very fricking clear Clive has something similar to the GoT stance thing but instead of bottom right it’s top left next to his health. At most shown there in the trailer is three. Go watch it you can see he changes them with R2 and that changes all the square triangle circle and x buttons to allow what could be at least 12 moves to me. Seems he can circle through themseamlessly and you can see him doing it in the trailer whe he does that gigantic slam AOE he switches from something to I think titan in mid air. None of that is speculation lindow wicker. The game is done. It’s playable start to finish. Only thing I expect them to do is polish all the game like they did the shiva titan fight because it was 100x better in trailer two and for ducks sake clean up the fighting mainly the UI and the numbers everywhere

Bro I agreed with you about the “ivalice style of story” meaning in my words “medieval political intrigue” but the Ivalice world and stories themselves are Matsuno.
You made a statement that “this game will borrow significantly from 12” which is a pretty strong statement to make and you should probably explain a bit better what aspects you mean. It’s been explained to you that the combat director for 12 isn’t directing combat for this one. Even from the trailer the combat looks nothing like 12. You got the art director in common and I can see that as well from some of the designs and it makes sense if he worked on the ivalice games as well. That’s really as far as I see it
Eta: JTFC dude chill tf out. Some of us don’t have the time to analyze 3 minute trailers frame by frame. I’d rather just wait until it comes out and play it myself considering we have another year and things could still change

Exactly we have another year. Almost every thing I put forth or posited will most certainly be wrong. Except the stances change with your junctioned Eikons that’s damn clear. And if you think reading what td01241 wrote on Tigerdroppings will spoil this game idk what yo even say to you. Also; I didn’t ask you to watch the trailer frame by frame I did three times. Takes like 12 minutes huge times commitment I know. Then I posted some things to saw, what they could be and mean, etc. The game has shown us 8 Eikons when’s they’re gonna be like 24 at least, and shown us 5 characters. Read, and contribute because it’s fun, or don’t read it idc. What’s gonnna change? Will the ghraphics be a hellllll of a lot better? Yeah, you could see th shiva titan bottle. Compare the two and they made it look worlds better plus Clive at the end has a great design. However, the game is done. It’s playable and finished. All that is left is polishing all the shite up and while I will agree the UI and shite all over during combat is annoying as hell I do like the duels which I can think we can agree will be th biggest and most bottles. They will clean the battle uI and health bars up a ton I hope.
