They reported that Zelda won't be a launch title, which I think is even more outlandish

And they may be on the money, they're reputable, but not infallible

We'll see next month.

Is this the only place to play Mario, Zelda, and Smash Bros?

Yeah, none of this spec shite really matters to me.

You're the only person Reggie gives a shite about.

I'm assuming that's not recent. I would hope not.

eta: You guys think I'm hard on Nintendo. Polygon took this info and ran an article titled "Nintendo switch runs 40 percent lower undocked"

LOL at the Wii U.

The NES Classic sold as much in one month as the Wii U did in 6 months.

From a short documentary that was released in the past week. LINK

I mean, it's not after Super Mario Run released, but couldn't have been too long ago.

It will be interesting to see. The article says not to expect the big ports in switch. The question is can they support it on their own.

The answer is no. The Wii U had some of the best Nintendo games to date. Third parties won't support a console with console games if it is too costly. Which it would be if the rumors are true.

The only chance is getting 3DS level games on a home console. If this is true, that is the gamble. The games better be 3DS prices. It isn't smart at all to go this route.

The problem, it isn't smart to make a powerful console either. Shooting for the X1 at least should have been the play.

This Nintendo fan's take:

I think this very well could be Nintendo quietly exiting the console market for the time being.

If you look at the Switch as their next handheld instead of their next console, the specs make total sense.

I was always skeptical of those who said the Switch would have Xbox1 level power while at the same time being on a device that was affordable and had good battery life.

If the switch doesn't do well then I don't see how they don't go 3rd party. We will just have to see though. I never expected this machine to be powerful. I do think it is powerful by handheld standards and they can still make great games with it. I don't expect AAA support but hopefully they can start to build some relationships, which they suck at, and get smaller games on the Switch. Get those indies that people are playing more of. Get the smaller games like Unraveled for EA that those companies are producing. That system helped Sony fill the void on PS4 for a long time before they really had any exclusives on the system.

On top of that we know their console exclusives alone can't sustain a system well but perhaps their console and handheld games together can provide a much more robust ecosystem. There are other market factors to consider like do people even want to buy a system to play their games anymore? No one really knows the answer to that. The hardcore Nintendo fans say yes but those people aren't enough evidenced by the Wii U.

This. And I admit, I've missed a lot of great games on the late DS and 3DS systems, but I'm just not a handheld gamer for the most part. I'm interested in this if it can bridge the gap between console and handheld, but if it isn't a good home console, then ehhh, what's the point? I already carry a phone and 2 tablets when I travel. It has to do something really well for me to replace something.

Well the Shield is pretty good, and the reason people thought it would push lose to XB1 power is because of that. And if anyone could figure out power efficiency, it's Nintendo, they've been focusing on that for years.
