don't put it in a browser, put it in the technic launcher search. You need to download the launcher. Then you put https://technicpack.net/modpack/tdgb.654969 where this arrow is pointing.

i read up on making your own technic kit...that's basically just a way to deliver your mod packs to people who want to play on your server? no real need for it myself unless i plan on hosting?

sorry I took off quick, had to go feed the baby

yeah, technic has a couple of good prebuilt modpacks, but yeah, it's great for building up a modpack for a server or just by yourself. It keeps the version of minecraft and you don't have to worry about it updating or any other nonsense.

I downloaded the technic thing and played the server and it doesn't seem to load.

It crashes.

I tried to connect with the minecraft I had already installed on my computer and it says the server is not using my version. My version is ahead of the server's. Is that because all the mods only work on that old minecraft build?

Do I need to install all the modpacks in technic then try running TDGB again?

You only need to install the TDGB modpack.

One thing I forgot to mention is you need to make sure you are running x64 java, not 32 bit java. If you look at my screen shot of the technic launcher, there is a gear in the top right with launcher options next to it, if you click it, it will give you the option of raising the ram beyond 1GB only if you have 64 bit java installed, you need to give it the max you can because modded minecraft needs a lot more ram.

Where does it crash, connecting to the server or when the game is starting up?

One thing you can try if it is crashing when you start up minecraft is opening up your technic folder and deleting a recent mod I added and have not full tested.

go to %appdata% in file manger

You should see a .technic folder. Delete the entire tdgb folder inside it and reinstall it in the launcher. I took out the only mod I added since hailtothechiz started playing.

Sounds like he was doing what I did.

Pettus, install the technic launcher. Once you open the launcher search for his technic pack. It gives you an install option. Then after you install it the button says play.

Launch minecraft from the technic launcher rather than the minecraft program itself.

I couldn't connect because I was trying through minecraft rather than technic.

Also. Crashing due to not having Java 64 if your operating system supports it. It allowed me to increase ram in technic launcher.

Lots of mods so required a bit of ram.

Thanks, both of you, for getting me this far.

I think I'm on the right path now, the only issue I am having is to get java to install the 64 bit version.

ETA
OK. I did everything by the book and it is still crashing.

Get the window for minecraft to open, and then it crashes. Says "not responding" then technic pops back up.

Deets: Have the right java...pumping 3 GB of RAM into the game. I don't even see the Mojang load screen.

Did you delete the entire mod folder and reinstall?

This could be my fault for not fully testing inventory tweaks before I added it to the mod pack. I have removed it and it should work fine now.

Also in the .technic/tdgb folder, there will be crashes and logs folders, if you look at the latest files in there, it will give you clues about why it is crashing. Anyway to post those new files somewhere so I can see them and help you?

ETA: Actually I think the crashes in startup are stored in the .technic launcher log or crash folder, not in the TDGB folders.

OK. Finally got it to work. Got in the server.

And it got dark quick.

Seems like the mods are an entirely new way to play!

After running to what I thought was a mushroom isle, I ended up finding a crafting table...but it was dark and I was being attacked.

Got to warn you, I have chocolate quest, infernal mobs, and ruins mods in it. Beware of castles/ruins, they have tons of mobs and traps, but there is good loot in them.

Also pay attention when fighting mobs in the open, occassionally you will run into a boss mob that will have crazy high health and different skills. It will show a weird name for them on the screen when you look at them.

There's a lot I have to learn about these mods to understand the intricacies of crafting.

Like I happened upon a village...and one of the buildings set up looked like a large hadron collider facility and i had never seen some of that stuff before. Dealing with the rails.
