Should I get back into WoW or start playing GW2?

I wouldn't do WoW. That shite eats up your time, and I feel like you don't get that much pleasure out of playing it. You spend a long time just running around and doing mundane tasks to level up dumb arse skills. I did the free trial and said no thanks. I don't want to feel like I'm at work during any point of a game, and that's how I felt when I was playing WoW.

I've never played GW2, so I can't speak on that.

WoW since the new expansion has gone back to being really time consuming. You have to play a good amount to make any progress end-game.

I didn't have a life when I was playing WOW full blast. It is way too time consuming. Thankfully I've given it up for some games that are a lot less life consuming.

WOW is a great game though and I had a blast playing it. I'm ready for a new one.

It's called self control. If WoW and $15/month keeps you from having a girlfriend or buying other games, then you are doing it wrong and you probably can't afford to be playing anyway.

Holy crap, I haven't seen Strong bad in forever.

You will get your money's worth out of GW2, I played for 3-4 month before I stopped, much more than any single player game. I haven't touched my 3 WoW accounts in over 2 years, very fun game until you hit the raiding grind.

I've played both, so here's my take. I played WoW in the beginning (Vanilla) and I played WoW in the previous patch (CATA). I also played GW2 from when it first started.

If you ever played Warcraft III (1 and 2 are kinda optional, the big story stuff was in 3), WoW has a pretty good lore, and is worth either a single playthrough to the level cap. The biggest problem with WoW is the $15/month fee, and dungeons/raids at the level cap. It makes you feel like you have to be playing it non-stop or you aren't getting your money's worth. Considering how much gear you have to buy with dungeon points, it feels like a huge time waster.

After the initial $60 investment, GW2 is as free as you want it to be. I haven't gotten serious with this game, so I haven't done any of the raid stuff. But knowing that my Charr Guardian can sit there at level 40 or so, FOR FREE, that's pretty awesome. GW2 seems to lack the familiar lore connection WoW has, but I wasn't a hardcore GW1 player, so maybe there is a huge amount and I'm just missing it.

The big similarity between the two that I see is that both games are pretty empty for the early levels. This hurts GW2 more than WoW, since GW2 has some pretty epic world bosses I'd love to fight that are waaay too strong to solo. But GW2 has the added advantage that you are leveled down to fit the zone, so every zone is a challenge, making it worthwhile to backtrack.

My Suggestion: If you played Warcraft 3, play WoW for a little while, there is plenty of nostalgia there. If you haven't played WC3, its a good strategy game and you should give it a go too, but first go get GW2, the game is easily worth the $60 price tag (if it hasn't received a discount yet, maybe you can find it cheaper)
