Meh. I bought a Wii U and I fully support their decision. It's a business decision and it's the best one they could have made. If anyone has hurt feelings over it, that's their problem.

That's anger.

Because, no offense, you kind of hit every Nintendo thread being super angry

Not angry but I'm going to call them out on their bullshite. I want to like Nintendo but they keep making poor decisions although the Switch looks like a good product at this point.

quote:

Especially if Zelda is the last Nintendo game you like, which was inferred by a previous post, while actually not like 3 of the last 4 console versions. I don't know. Better said, you haven't liked modern Zeldas, are fed up with Nintendo, but will be angry if Zelda doesn't come to the WiiU? Odd.

I didn't like Majora's mask and repeatedly have said I like Wind Waker. I want to replay Twilight without motion controls so I will remove that from the conversation and that should tell you how I feel about Skyward Sword too.

quote:

There is no such thing as a company promising anything. If there is a quote where Nintendo says, "It is 100% certain that the new Zelda will definitely appear on the WiiU. No exceptions." then yeah, that might be a problem.

Once again, not angry.

Supporting a decision isn't necessarily saying it isn't wrong. Or being ok with it, doesn't mean it's right. I would assume that most people who are fine with it are getting a Switch. Out of the 1000 people who have a Wii, there are, yes, a few people who will be upset because they are "done with Nintendo." I mean, would you invest in people who weren't supporting you?

Is it wrong to cut short support of a console within the generally acceptable five-year time frame? Yes.

If that's what you want people to say, sure. It's wrong. They've said Wii U release for a good 18 months now, so it's wrong. Not sure they ever promised it, but we'll go with this.

At the same time, do any sales figures support actually continuing development? have internal metrics on the Switch been good enough to support this decision? Are they ok losing the "Nintendo fans" like Gardocki that are not getting a Switch? Etc.

At a basic level or emotional level, yeah it's wrong, but it's still a business at the end of the day. I assume there's a business case behind the decision at the very least.

Have there been similar situations on PS or Xbox? Don't keep up enough with schedules to know.

So the question is, is it a poor business decision to continuing investing in the Wii U?

Fair enough.

Is the equivalent of "I'm not listening to any other coaching offers."

Or "The DS is the third pillar."

Or "We're developing kinect games."

Etc. Marketing man, I love Nintendo, but they are going to approach PR communication like any business or enterprise would, which means, they are often going to spin things to sound positive. and will often outright lie.

They are not alone in this.

Too bad. Yes Nintendo is wrong, but the opportunity cost is probably low, hence, most likely a good business decision. They are not a charity.

ETA: I also think you are looking at things very narrowly. I don't think any Nintendo fan in this thread is innocent to the idea that Nintendo makes stupid decisions ROUTINELY. I just think most fans are kind of numb to it. And the games are still awesome and the quality is still high, so why would people worry?

You said

quote:

If there is a quote where Nintendo says, "It is 100% certain that the new Zelda will definitely appear on the WiiU. No exceptions." then yeah, that might be a problem.

So I showed you that yes they did. I even remember them promising it would come out in 2016. That also didn't happen.

quote:

So the question is, is it a poor business decision to continuing investing in the Wii U?

I 100% support them abandoning the Wii U but they have to do right by Zelda and release it on Wii U. They have said over and over it was coming to Wii U. Nintendo is already losing fans and can't continue to alienate people.

Also they showed footage on the Wii U not that long ago, they aren't abandoning the Wii U version.

quote:

I completely get how this works and I call all parties out on their bullshite when they do it. Some companies only do it a little and some are terrible about it.

That's why I literally just never believe media. For instance, for me, this:

quote:

but Zelda is still coming to Wii U," Miyamoto said

Is just talk. It in no way equals a promise, an assurance, or a confirmed release. So it doesn't equal:

quote:

"It is 100% certain that the new Zelda will definitely appear on the WiiU. No exceptions." then yeah, that might be a problem.

I would need to hear Miyamoto say something like "I have the disc in my hand, and there is no chance that we don't release it on the Wii U. I am officially confirming this for the Wii U" before I would take that seriously.

quote:

Also they showed footage on the Wii U not that long ago, they aren't abandoning the Wii U version.

I don't think they are either.

I mean what he said was pretty much a promise. Doesn't mean he can't lie about it. I didn't believe the last guardian was coming out until it did

False rumor started by troll

quote:

This rumor was intentionally fabricated. Here's the blog post which is the original source of the rumor, which has since been replaced with a GIF that states (in French) "bravo, journalists... I played you!" and a picture of the "internal Nintendo document" with "click here, RT + fav" scrawled on it. In short, a French troll made an account on a free Japanese blog site and posted a made-up rumor that was then spread and reported on like news.

Very biblical statement. I don't know but it makes me feel powerful.

But yes, I was referring to Ocarina.
