Was this game always so boring? I don’t remember being it so linear for an open world game.

Is that the one with Brit in New England? I only played for 30 minutes and lost interest.

Found your answer.

Side note, tried to work my way through Odyssey recently since it seemed so popular and holy fricking fetch quests. It’s a game, with nothing but fetch quests. Spend 10+ hours trying to find your mom, find her, and immediately she’s like hey go do these three things, one of which requires you to do another three things to complete that part. Just destroys any kind of narrative momentum with that structure without ever providing a satisfying payoff.

There’s fetch quests within fetch quests within yet another overarching fetch quest, and the map is so god damn big all I felt like I was ever doing was running 2000m to get to the next chore.

AC Origins has this too. Still enjoyed the hell out of the game.

This must be a blanket term for any sidequests, because I finished the primary story last night and didn't feel any of those were worse than any other game I've played. I'm in the process of hunting down all of the cultists for the second ending.

I think what makes it so much more noticeable than other games is that the map is so spread out, and the main story takes forever to progress. Also a lot of the tasks to complete the side quests are pretty repetitive which kind of kills the desire to keep running them. The whole formula just leads to a general sense of burnout about halfway through the game.

All that said, really enjoyed my time with it so far. Combat still needs some tweaks but is so much better than where it was. World is big and pretty and the RPG mechanics were well done.

The only real gripe I had with the game is the level gate. You're correct, we all love a big world but this was nuts and there was so much to do (still has nothing on Far Cry 4's map barf). But whatever, I dont have to do all of that side content.... until I get to a story mission and I'm woefully under leveled for it.

I will say that the combat in this game is the best in the series by a long shot. I unlocked quite a few actions that made it so engaging and fun. Managing the skill bar was engaging, and a lot of these encounters were downright difficult.

Combat is pretty god damn sweet. Only suggestion would be upping damage dealt and received so fights don’t drag on as long and missed dodges and parries are slightly more punitive.

Overall the game is surprisingly really good.

"Fetch quest" has to be the most overused, abused, and misused term when describing RPGs.

Many, because you definitely overgeneralized the game's missions.

How about repetitive location based chores?

My workaround was to find a spawn point in every area. It was easy.
