I've read tons of literature on successful CEOs, Gertsner and Jeff Immelt (GE) are more impressive.
Jobs was handed the keys to a Ferrari and just had to put gas in it. Most impressive thing about Jobs and Apple is that they have literally 4 dudes (including Jobs) that think of all their ideas.

over a decade later Apple buys out Jobs new company for like 1/2 a billion..and so begins the illustrious career we are familiar with

The Apple fanboys were very angry about the decisions made by Jobs originally as well. They felt that the iPhone and the switch to Intel chips was a bad move and would ruin the company.
