Never played any of the games. Have 2 nephews that are into mario odyssey, smash, and minecraft. i know its not out yet but from what you guys know, how complicated is this new 1 supposed to be? 1 is in kindergarten and 1 is in 2nd grade. are they too young to enjoy this? is it too rpg for their age?

If they are playing Mario Odyssey then they will be fine with Pokemon. I started playing Pokemon around that age and picked it up with no problems

Sounds like the perfect age to start playing IMO. I started with pokemon red on the gameboy when I was in kindergarten

The issues with Pokemon occur more when a child can actually think out repercussions. I remember when I was like 9 and finally put two and two together that nobody was bringing wild Pokemon to the PokeCenter, so I was basically wholesale killing them

Pokemon was basically the JRPG for kids. It's just universally loved and a lot of people never really grew out of it. They'll be fine with it if they're already playing open world stuff like Odyssey.
