PewdiePie is the last gasp of a dying industry.

A lot of people have patreon now. They don't rely on youtube ad revenue, just for exposure. I know patreon has closed some people's accounts but the good ones will find a way.

He's so fricking annoying, but that's funny.

Felt the same way until the whole WashingtonPost/Nazi stuff.

Watched some of his newer videos which turned me into a semi-fan. Seems like he changed his content to more of make fun of cringe in an H3H3 way.

What? I grew up in rural and suburban Georgia and I probably only heard an Nbomb even dropped 3-4 times. It's not normal.

Only if you give power to the word.

One of the foundation grass root racist terms in the English language doesn't already have power? Just because "they" call each other that all the time doesn't give us free reign to toss it around without consequence.

I know nothing about pewdiepie, but I seriously doubt he's any kind of racist. Unfortunately he's going to have to take this one on the chin.

Louis CK uses it in his stand up. It is a good tasteful joke too.

No one bats an eye.

But you can't tell me there isn't a difference between a prepared stand up bit where he actually provides context and letting it slip in the heat of the moment.

It will definitely get blown out of proportion by the "everything is racist" crowd, but you just can't do that.

I'll admit I was on the "the word has no meaning" train and used to call my friends that for the crap of it. But that was a loooooong time ago.

Wait, wait, wait...You think it is/was YOUTUBE that normalized the use of that word?

I think "normalizing" is the most retarded buzzword of 2016/2017

i also don't think saying the n word is a big deal. er or a, black or white, joking or serious

I just said it again.

You also think Sumlin's wife made up the racist hate mail with really no proof at all.

i have no idea about any of that. the OP was triggered, I encouraged the triggering. i don't know why people think it's fake, i don't know anything about it...seriously. i haven't followed one thread, read one article and don't care. it had the n word, big deal.

even if i did though, why would that be relevant?

i just said it again, super hard -er

Done. Still comes off as naive and lacking any historical or cultural perspective. A wish for what the world might be instead of what is.

I have douchebags teaching my 6 year old "Suck my dick!" through text chat on "kids" games like Pixel Gun and Roblox. Vulgarity of all type (and the N word as well) has been normalized, first from music and pop culture, and now propagated exponentially via (anonymous) on demand electronic interaction of all sort, and it doesn't require a "popular" face to "normalize" it. Kids see and hear it everyday. School, games, social media, etc... Our culture has normalized it over time.

Parenting comes into play here as well, as it did when my son told his mother to "suck my dick", but I realize that's not always available to everyone.
