PC master race: ultrawide monitor - hardware needed?

So, I have an Alienware Aurora R7 setup from 2018 with an i5 processor, geforce 1060 and 16gb ram.
To increase fps, would you recommend:
1) upgrade CPU to i7 9700, or
2) geforce 2070?
My recommended resolution is 3440x1440, and I'm trying to play Warzone with higher frames on this resolution because it looks like shite on the lower ones. I'm getting around 60 fps with nothing going on and dips down very low into the 20's during the plane animation.

I'd probably wait for a 3070, if you can.

Very helpful, this isn’t the OT. And I selected it as an option to be budget friendly, so now the question is—does the i7 offer enough or do I need an i9 / new mono upgrade ?

He's laughing because saying it has an i5 isn't very helpful since it is such a wide array and many years of CPUs. There's a demographic of computer buyer's that bought into the "It has an i5 or i7" as implying it has a good CPU.
Try going into your computer settings - system - about to find the actual CPU series. This can also help to determine if you are CPU or GPU bottlenecked.
1) If your CPU is on an older socket you'll potentially have to upgrade the motherboard.
2) If you prebuilt has a crap PSU you might not be able to power a newer 3000 series GPU.
Warzone at that resolution is going to be demanding on a computer so don't expect amazingly high FPS, but you should be getting more stability. You can probably tweak your settings to help with your current setup.

Save your money and get a 3080 once the bugs are worked out. RAM is fine for now, but if you're going to go really into it you'll want 32gb minimum. CPU upgrade last, but also make sure your motherboard can take it.

It’s an i5 8400 6 core 9mb cache. My mobo can only take an i7 9700 and yes, I will have to upgrade the PSU to 650 or 850 watts but it isn’t that big of a deal from what I understand

Short answer, you need to upgrade both. Upgrading only one isn’t going to help much.
An i7 9700K can be had for $300-ish and a 2070 for $500-ish depending on brand. That’ll get you where you need to be for a reasonable price.
ETA: I built my current PC 3+ years ago. I have a 1080 ti and a i7 6700K and I run any game I want on my ultra-wide Specter monitor just fine.

Don't do this right now.

Thanks for the input everybody. Think I’ll wait for the new geforce and consider the cpu upgrade first at least

At 1440 ultrawide having trouble pushing 60fps, you're almost certainly GPU bound. Your whole system could use an overhaul, and I would need to see some in game component usage stats to be sure, but my ignorant random stranger on the internet advice is that you should upgrade your GPU first and only worry about anything/everything else if that doesn't get you where you want to be.
And for heaven's sake, no, don't buy a 2070. Wait for the AMD event at the end of October and then pull the trigger on whichever of the new generation of cards from NV or AMD makes the most sense for you.

I decided to go ahead and upgrade the entire PC if anyone is looking to buy the one I described ha.
Took the 15% off deal on Dell for a new R11, 2070 super (which I'm going to attempt to sell on ebay to get the new 3080 because Dell has locked the 3080 to a $4,000 model) and i9 10900k. It seems like it's going to be roughly the same as building my own from what I priced out on newegg.

That would surprise me, unless they skimped on a "not sexy" component like the PSU or the motherboard.
Link to the system?

Dell site
A lot of it being that if I was going to build it myself, I wanted a nice case ($350 coolermaster c700p).
With fans, liquid cooling, 1tb ssd, case, processor, 850w psu, 32gb ram, msi Z490, it came to $1900 before tax and before video card.
I’m at $2080 before tax (1000w psu, not sure on the board) and buying an extra 16 gb stick on amazon rather than paying Dell’s price, including the 2070 super.
My one issue is I looked into the R11 case and I’ll need a smaller form factor /blower style 3080 when they release in a few months, unless I can somehow buy the 3080 they’re using directly from Dell. FE cards are too long (11.25” I think) currently as the R11 can only take 10.5” cards.
I figure I can sell the 2070 super for $350 ? on eBay + $700 for the 3080 = $2400 vs. $2600 for the Newegg build

With the RTX 3070 selling for $499 and an RTX 3060ti already in the works, I think $350 for a 2070 super is likely a bit optimistic.
With that said, I'm a little confused how you went from blowing it out on a $350 E-ATX case to a small form factor case with poor airflow. And why are you blowing the budget on a processor? At 1440p on high+ settings, you're not going to see a ton of difference between that and, say, a $175 Ryzen 3600.
At the end of the day, if you've already bought it, I'm not looking to frick with your shite. If you haven't, let me know and we can talk it out
