There was a still picture comparison of 1080 vs 4k and it was hard to tell the difference. Add on top of that the lack of content and its not worth it. I agree with you though that pc will be different.

Higher resolution on monitors makes a huge difference compared to TV is because you are on top the thing.
You can really appreciate High Res displays with great color reproduction when its in your face.

I want to start mining/folding again. When do you receive the ASIC?

It seems to me that the benefit of 4k would only be noticeable if you change your viewing habits. Most entertainment rooms/living areas should be set up for optimal viewing of 1080p (I said "should" because I've been to many houses with 60-70" 1080p LCDs that are wayyy too close to the seating. In those cases, doubling the resolution would have a noticeable impact.
I don't watch much TV at all, so I don't see myself jumping on this technology anytime soon. I have a couple of shows I watch when they're new, and the rest of my TV viewing is just reruns late at night until I'm ready to fall asleep. The TV in my bedroom is an old 32" from 2007, 720p. Maybe I'll upgrade many years from now when there's actual 4k content to enjoy (not just movies and a smattering of other shite I don't care about). As it is now, I have U-verse and all the HD channels are 720p anyway (some are 1080i but who gives a shite).

Don't you live in New Orleans? I'm in auburn man
My living room is set up for 720 with my distance from my tv. I can't tell the difference with 1080 unless I move closer. My monitor I can of course notice.

I canceled my order. I jumped on the bandwagon too late, BFL kept pushing back the shipping times, and it was becoming clear that by the time I ever got mine, the hashrate and difficulty would be so high that it would be like using a mid-high end GPU right now. Butterfly labs has been stringing people along for over a year. They post incremental updates every few weeks, promising that they'll start shipping the first batch in X weeks. Always using an excuse such as power problems, lower than expected hashrates, etc.
And this is before customers even have their machines. I can't imagine what kind of problems will come out of the actual tangible products when they ship. Yes, they have working machines that have been demonstrated and shipped to developers. But it's a different ballgame when you start making thousands upon thousands of those units. How many RMAs will they have to deal with, firmware upgrades, complete replacements, etc. because of some small QC issue that just happened to affect 10,000 units?
So yeah, I decided to bail. Those with longstanding preorders will either be handsomely rewarded for their patience, or they will be really fricking pissed because they paid with bitcoins.

Yeah I was just on their site. Was thinking the same thing, these guys have taken pre-orders for a year now.
I can't imagine how difficult it will be in 1-2yrs since PC gaming / folding/ mining is making it mainstream.

There are other companies besides BFL that have already shipped their first batch ASIC machines.

As much fun as I would have it would be hard to make it and convince the wife it's worth it.
I was in New Orleans a couple of weeks ago but that was the first time in 2 years.

An alleged picture and specifications of AMD’s upcoming flagship Radeon HD 8970 graphics card have been leaked by 4Chan. Not the best place for rumors it might be so do take this report with a grain of salt. AMD’s Radeon HD 8000 series could possibly be showcased at E3 2013 as revealed earlier.

I know, but I think Coyote was asking me because he knew I had a BFL order. I jumped on BFL too late as it was, but Avalon and ASICMINER I would've been way too late. They're way out of my price range, and BFL's $650 price tag was attractive. I paid with paypal/CC because I knew there'd be no risk that way. I say kudos to those who were smart enough to jump in early with one of those other companies and get working machines. After 2011, I just ignored the bitcoin world for too long, and started paying attention again after everyone else jumped back in.

Yeah plus other companies don't offer what BFL offers IMO. Their SFF systems look great and are advertised to perform.(Although no one really knows)

Well, the other companies are offering actual products, so there's that.

If someone offered me BFL's working minirig with a guaranteed delivery date of today, I'd gladly do whatever I could to buy it ($30,000) -- sell stock, tap into savings, hell even put it on a credit card.
When I gave them my money two months ago, they could've used it to build my machine, then mined with it for that 2 months, and made close to $10k.
