Yea I experienced this when I tried to RMA a broken 7870. I used the Amazon "RMA" process instead.

I don't blame you. I didn't play on buying Sapphire again after it took them 2 weeks to send me a bios for one of my cards. Then the 7870s were like $150, and I bit onto their hook again.

To send a VBIOS?
Why would you ever contact or wait for such a thing? Confused why you didn't just DL one off the internet.

They have like 4-5 different bios for the same card. It just depends on the layout of that particular card. I have a picture of my 2 dual-X 7950s laying side by side, and the PCB layout is different. The internets didn't have this particular bios, it was a really obscure one.
The one on the right is different. Same exact part number too.

I don't need the extenders since I had to cancel the order on those 4 290x.
I wouldn't mind another 270x though to crossfire with this one I am using in my temp set up. How much do you want for it?

GD I frickING HATE TigerDirect.com!!
7 days later and I am still fighting them for a release of my funds they put on hold when they had their pricing glitch last weekend. They cancelled the orders but forgot to release my funds and their customer service is fricking horrible and barely speaks a lick of english as always.
shite like this is the very reason I only order from them if the price is too good to pass up.

The layout looks the same, they just have better inductors on the right card.
You have some generic shtt on the left. That is probably the reason for the extra capacitor?
EDT: Is the memory modules the same? I can't read the right card's number.
This happens a lot. With the Titans it was a hit or miss if you got the Samsung modules or the Hynix modules for memory. Again, would think same model number.
EDT2: Also are the chips the same? Earlier dies are usually leaky and later dies less leaky, this would also explain the loss of 1 capacitor (really 1 inductor, 2 capacitors but you get the point).

His modules would be either Hynix or Elpida (Just saw they are Elpida), and yeah, there are bioses that won't work with one or the other, and others that are designed for both. But on a side note, there are also two different types of Hynix modules, and in the case of my 7970s, I learned that the MFR-based modules have a completely different timing profile from the AFR modules (the MFR modules having the poorer timing configuration), and AFR bioses won't work with MFR bioses and vice versa. So, basically, all Tahiti cards can have one of three types of memory, and even more types of bioses that aren't cross-compatible. I realized I had one card with MFR Hynix mem while the other two were AFR.
I found a thread on a cryptocurrency forum where an engineer explained the differences and offered to modify bioses for people. But of course, he has to protect his own intellectual property, so the decoding of the timings and the actual control register locations are not public knowledge (or at least not easily located).
In Bruce's case, he tried bioses from other AIBs in addition to every Sapphire 7950 bios available online. Last resort was to try to get Sapphire to send the bios used on his exact part number to eliminate any doubt-- basically, exhaust every option before having to go through the total fricking nightmare of a Sapphire RMA. In the end, it was pretty clear that the card was just dead/dying - I'm guessing one of the bioses he tried would've worked had the card been functional, but it wasn't exactly simple to determine that given his card's symptoms.

The card on the left is the first one that I bought. It was still late in the generation for the chips though. Both have elpida modules, I'm not sure about the numbers though. I've had 3 of these cards, and all 3 of them have had different bios sets.

That is very interesting none the less.
VBIOS that was requested, what did you ask Sapphire?
Edt: So you guys are still miming HC like? If you need or want more cards, risers or parts... I'm here. Idk what happened, but I've lost so much interest in PCs and gaming.
Just a very boring time... nothing to buy!!!

Yeah, profits are down, and I'm sure it's only going to get worse, so I'm not planning to invest any additional money into it (Any additional cards I buy at this point would require me to buy a PSU, mobo, CPU, and RAM as well). But, even if I'm only making a few dollars a day, my rigs are mining maintenance free 24/7 now, so there's no reason not to keep it going until electricity costs exceed mining profits.
If summer proves to be harsh and my room gets miserable during the day, I may move my 2 7970s and 280x into a new rig and out of the room and get something new for gaming. Just depends on how my bank account looks. My son is due next month.

I just sent them the serial number for the card. They sent me both of the ones for the card.

Yeah, I'm still mining 24/7, but I'm not sure if I'm going to invest more into at the moment. Markets are going full retard, and profits are low.

Could a video card be dead even if the fan on the video card still spins?
Posted on 3/9/14 at 8:51 pm to Greace
Yep
It can power on and do everything normal but not output video

So if I stuck the video card in another computer and the monitors don't power on its the video card?
Posted on 3/9/14 at 8:55 pm to Greace
More than likely if it's not working on both computers.

Mine actually output video. Just the clock speeds read zero, and so did just about everything else.
