Well damn. Those are the ones that you leave it in on, and them proclaim your love for them.

The one I graduated with had 3 cars. A Range Rover sport, Wrangler Rubi, and a Mercedes hard top convertible... Seriously?

I know. It's weird because UHS is a really cheap private school (for Louisiana)

Private/public... Yea I always found that weird too though.

I don't know why, but I'm not a huge fan of the LJ. They just look weird to me. If I was buying one right now, I would like a 2000 5 speed 4.0 TJ and just build it up.

None of those newer ones can top my 78 CJ-5 Renegade with an automatic 304.
I paid $3K for it about 7 years ago and have dumped about that much more in it.
I have been offered $15K for it but it's my Summer time joy ride.

you're damn right. I almost bought a '70 renegade 6 cylinder 3-speed for $1000 back in high school. I kick myself for not buying it.
There was a guy down the road from me about 6 months ago who had a cj5 for $500. It was the definition of project though. I would have had to build it completely. It would have cost 5k before it was even able to be driven.

If you ever find an automatic Renegade buy it no matter what. Apparently they aren't very common and are in demand for people that make those extreme rock climbing Jeeps. I didn't know this until well after I bought mine.

Oh yeah, the OG one for sure. When I still worked at the shop, there was a guy who had an early 70s cj that he had dropped a 350 and a turbo 350 tranny into. I could have got it for $2500, but it was rough too. Motor and tranny were nice, but the rusted out frame and literal bucket seats were not. Body was almost nothing but bondo.
I could build a 500 horsepower 350 with $2500, it just wasn't worth it.

Value killer right there... Luckily mine doesn't have a speck of rust.
Do that for my jeep! My parents may be selling my daily driver, so they can get my jeep out of their driveway. Hopefully they'll put some of that money into a new tranny (at least) and put in a new engine. My 3rd and 5th gears are shot and unusable right now. To make it all better, I can only hit 60 mph on the interstate, and that's if I'm with the wind

yeah, those 4 cylinders are super weak.
I can build just the motor for $2500, the rest of the conversion costs a bit more. You can get adapter plates for the 5 speeds that come with the 4.0s, and they're serviceable. You have to build custom motor mounts as far as I know, and you have to modify the firewall to clear the distributor. All and all, it's not that much. I worked with a guy who had a 350 conversion in his 89, headers and true duals with 39s on it. A custom built roll cage. fricking thing is mean.
I'm in the process of dropping my 5.4 Supercrew 3 inches, and I may supercharge it. That is, if I can find a Lightning or Harley edition that has been wrecked. I'm not paying $3000 for a supercharger+another $1500 for rebuilding the bottom end with forged rods and pistons.

I wish I was more mechanically inclined. I can do lots of electrical work and low level mechanic stuff, but I want to be able to swap an axle, regear, install lift kits and lockers and that kind of shite. I spend more on installation than I do on the actual parts

I did it professionally for about 3 years. It's really not hard, if you have the right tools and equipment. Experience, of course, plays a huge role. I learned from someone with 40+ years of maintenance, industrial, and restoration experience. I got lucky though. I can service a crane or rebuild a 40's flathead ford. Most of the shite you need to know if online anyway. If you really wanted to get dedicated to it, there's services like Alldata(the best imo) for working on any make or model. For the professional license it's like $200 a month(not bad for the info they have). They have complete break downs of every step, and all the specs and tools you'll need for the job. I can't tell you how many times something was brought into the shop, and I troubleshot it for about 30 minutes and then googled it. Enthusiast message boards are wonderful resources, just refer to a few different ones and see what the consensus answer to your problem is.
