stout, another thing...check to see if you order from MC online if someone else (me) can pick it up for you and just ship it or it's an in-store only thing . I think most stuff you can order and then pick up if shipping isn't available. Then just paypal me the shipping cost when I send it. Might be easier. Either way. When you email me we can work out the details.

You won't without another mobo to test with.

MJ, get the 260 then. It will be fine and you can always OC it.
I will look into ordering online and you picking it up for me. Thanks
ETA: you need to get the buikd I made for you a few pages back.

How big of a difference is 2-3 fps truly?
It's not

That's interesting that at the same settings, one game performs better for one card and another game performs better for the other.
You will find this to be very common. There are a lot of reasons for it. One thing common now is games are developed with companies so for example Hitman absolution was made with help from AMD. They use all their special technologies and what not and the end result is that the game favors AMD cards a little more. they both do it.

I saved it in my favorites. I'll check it later. If they have the same thing or something comparable at MC, I'll try to get it there. My buddy says they will match the price on the exact same parts so it's worth a shot

The one I made is going to be the best bang for your buck. It has all you wanted and a better video card than the two you're looking at and it's under $800.

thanks stout!
One last question....maybe.
Lets say the mobo is bad.
Specs:
775 Socket (Core 2 Duo)
DDR2 4 GB 2x240 pin 1066 MHZ
PCI-Express 16x GPU slot
SATA 3.0 Gb/s
Where would be the best place to buy a compatible mobo for cheap?

I may actually still go in the $150 range on the video card if that AMD is pretty decent and use the rest of the budget towards something else

EBay. You can't buy 775 boards new anymore as far as I know.

OK so I actually have a question about my father in law's computer now that I gathered up the courage to ask the Master Race.
Their computer was running fine and one day basically the operating system and content on the hard drive was corrupt. Couldn't boot into Windows.
Got it to my place, reformatted, let it sit on for about a week or two, nothing wrong with it. Give it back to the in laws...a week or so later same problem. Rinse and repeat. I reformatted/reinstalled windows maybe 5-6 times stupidly thinking it may just fix itself, but never has.
And actually re-installing Windows sometimes is a hassle because the computer might freeze mid installation. I eventually get it working again and reformatted.
Any ideas on what is corrupting the HDD? It has been a while since I messed with the thing, but I believe I have tried a different HDD and same results.

So what's the prevailing opinion about Intel vs. AMD on the board?
Posted on 2/24/14 at 11:51 am to SaintLSUnAtl
The 8320 and 8350 are superior for the price, but single core performance is all intel
Posted on 2/24/14 at 11:58 am to bluebarracuda
Would I do better for the price to get an 8350 or i5 intel?
Posted on 2/24/14 at 12:00 pm to SaintLSUnAtl
for gaming i say 8350 if they saved money goes into a better gpu
Posted on 2/24/14 at 12:01 pm to SaintLSUnAtl
Performance is so close that it entirely depends on what games you play. And if you like to stream, 8350 without question.
Posted on 2/24/14 at 12:11 pm to ILikeLSUToo
I won't be streaming. I'm just looking for the best I can get with the $. More for business, gaming will be secondary. I think I'm going with an 8320 or 8350. I'd rather put the $ in to cpu and memory and stick with the $150ish video card
Posted on 2/24/14 at 2:57 pm to SaintLSUnAtl
A good 990fx motherboard also going to run you cheaper than the equivalent z87 motherboard too. Something to consider...
Posted on 2/24/14 at 3:26 pm to brucevilanch
Yep, 8320 + decent 990FX board is a value that's hard to beat.
Posted on 2/24/14 at 3:28 pm to brucevilanch
I'm struggling most with the mobo. I'm not sure what to look for. They have some combos at MC but they all look the same. Same memory, sata, expansion....
what do I look for? What's the difference in the $65 board and the $90 one?
