Depending on the case, I usually install the PSU last anyway.

Did anyone but the 290 that's been on sale for $430 ($470 after tax)?

Thought about it but I read you can no longer flash any 290s with the 290x bios.

Assuming nothing goes wrong (fingers crossed) how many hours will it take to put my PC together and get Windows and updated drivers installed?

First time, probably being extra cautious, I would guess 4 or 5 hours

LOL I did my first one in less than an hour, with windows installed. I had watched so many tutorials that I was a professional at it, without any actual hands-on experience.

My first time doing it took a while because I used all the install discs for everything

Edit: Some (crappy) pics of my new setup. Too bad my keyboard LEDs are turned off :(

Edit #2: The white tabletop wasn't my #1 choice, but it was all the Houston Ikea had in stock. I didn't feel like waiting any longer for it. I plan on grabbing the white snowball and white r4 windowed to go with desk.

Everything was bought at Ikea Houston...
The tabletop
The drawer unit on left
Storage unit on right
Office chair

I'd say it takes longer to unbox all the shite than to actually assemble it. But if you're going into this blind, just take your time, read manuals, watch videos, learn what you're doing and why. Might take you 2 hours, or 10. Your next build will be significantly faster. You'll be slapping together builds like a 9-year-old Malaysian factory worker in no time.

jesus.. I wish I could have my setup look as clean as that (wire wise). I feel like i'm trapped in a huge fricking maze of wires. I swear there is such things as wire gnomes. Before I invested in velcro straps/zip ties, I would go behind my entertainment center and perfectly set the wires up to where they wouldn't move, or anything. I go behind the entertainment center 3-4 months later and there's a mangled mess.

One of my first purchases when we get a new house, which may be as soon as this summer, will be a new desk

I can't blame her. The way you have been going on about it I am starting to think you are going to frick it instead of her.

I have my power strip in the right storage unit on the bottom shelf. The wiring in there is a tangled mess, but I don't care as long as its not showing
