790, Titan Black, and 290x x2

290x x2 is appropriately named Vesuvius, because the core is made from molten lava.

I would love a 2x290 and 2x780, but the Titan BEs are silly especially with Maxwell coming up hopefully sooner than later. Not only that but nVidia waiting to release a 780 Ti with 6GB of VRAM this late is stupid. They released the lesser Titan with 6GB VRAM 1yr ago but waited almost 3 months to release a TI with the same resources.

So tired of GK110 chips, I've owned them all. I'm ready for Maxwell.

Truth, lol

I didn't get a chance to change the thermal paste on my 290. Will do it tomorrow and report results.

That's cool. People are still having problems keeping temps down with the non reference coolers. I can't imagine how a 2x hawaii chip single card is going to stay cool enough without being under water.

Looks like it's time for Coyote to send in the resume.

For us it isn't about just gaming at nVidia, nVidia is a life style.

What AM3 or AM3+ boards do you guys have with 3+ PCIe 2.0 slots? I purchased 2 of those 7870s w/ for 159(after MIR) and will start mining with spare 660Ti and 680.

Mining set up will be:

1x290
1x270X
2x7870
1x660Ti
1x680

my sabertooth has 4 16x slots and 2(I think) 1x slots. The asus is this one.. If you can find one of these, they're the way to go but they really aren't built for anything other than mining.

I'm not even using an AM3 board. FM2 with the weakest APU available. Don't even need x16 sized slots.

The other day I found my old riser that I used in my bitcoin mining days. It's a straight x1 to x1 riser, unpowered. I plugged it into one of my 270x's and it hashes just as well as it did in the x16 slot.

I have the riser/270x combo mounted in preparation for my third 270x, which is supposed to arrive tomorrow (but tomorrow's blizzard will probably mean a few days of delay).

Actually runs 4-5 degrees cooler in this position, even with the side panel on.

Fckk this is such a stupid question but I was thinking you needed the 75W from the PCIe slot. You don, just take the power from the PCI 8+6 pins. That is why I could never find a MOBO to fit my needs.

Where are you guys getting the cheapest ribbons/adapters?

I bought 4 powered risers that are supplied by amazon for $18 each.

Good deal, thanks Bruce.

My current MOBOs and spare MOBOs are good enough. The UD3 and my server's ASUS ProM H87 will fit the bill. I will just put an Athlon X3 into my UD3 and sale the 8320 for another 7870.

Yeah but I asked about AM3/AM3+ boards because I have about 3-4 AM3 chips that aren't being used. I have a shtt ton of mATX AM3 boards also but they only have 1x2.0 slot.

So thats the reason I asked about AM3/AM3+ boards. Im full up with Athlons.

EDT: I'm prepping our attic ATM. Will place the miners in there until Spring, then i'll move them in there.

Currently our shed and backyard patio are still under construction.

Here's a link to them.

Those were the first ones that I found that were available and supplied by them. Most of them come from China and it takes 3 weeks to get them.

Depending on the card and how many you have connected to one motherboard will determine whether you need the 75w from the pci-e slot. That's where the powered risers come in. They use USB or Molex for extra power.

The riser I'm using is non-powered. It's actually a straight x1 to x1, but I cut out a notch in the back of the slot so it would fit a video card. I think I got it for $5 from china years ago. Seems to be fine for the 270x. Whether it's still fine once I add the third 270x remains to be seen.

My miners will be as follows, which fits perfectly with 3xPCI Risers on my UD3 board. I am thinking about NOT mining with the 290 because I have already purchased an EK Block and Backplate for it. That would be $160 bucks lost and you can't return WC hardware to FrozenCPU for cash, only store credit.

Yeah my 290 doesn't even pull 250W I think. Just going off of wattage calculations from reported voltages in afterburner.

Saying that, my 270X probably doesnt pull 200W when undervolted. So i'm thinking of putting my 270X and 2x7870s on risers when they all arrive and skip powered PCIe/molex combos.

you're going to have a fun time trying to adjust voltage and clocks for all those different cards. In my experience, I'm only able to adjust the top card(and the ones that match it). All the others stay at stock. Mixing and matching on the same board is and interesting experience. I had mine in this order at one point:
7950
7950
5750

I could adjust the 7950s but the 5750 wasn't adjustable. The drivers don't like when you do that.

Its for my bedroom HTPC/SteamBox. I don't want it running all the time. That would annoy the GF and myself.

Even if its whisper quiet. Plus, its a gaming rig and not mining rig, don't want to stress the hardware. Its the same reason i'm not mining on the 780Tis.

Then again, if it actually starts making decent money I may consider running them. Until then, no, this is really not to make money but the fun of buying and putting hardware configs together. Im thinking about it in this way, "folding at home fun for free".
