Is the 290 cooler particularly shittier than previous AMD reference coolers? They're generally just aluminum heatsinks, plastic shroud, and a blower fan.

lol, this 290x comes with a free graphics card: LINK

Yea I wanted to purchase that Sapphire card. The cooler looks great! Didn't pull the trigger because the plan is slapping a block on it and both those cards are reference PCBs, nothing different but the coolers.
Yes the cooler is shittier than previous models. I didn't own any 7 series reference models but owned a 6850. The blower style fan make even more noise, blows less air to the touch and shroud seems to be of recycled plastic of the lowest quality process.
I haven't installed the AMD drivers yet to put stress on it, but at idle its loud and hot. Late tonight or tomorrow I will test it, this afternoon was a Kaveri/A88X playdate. I'm not sure why APUs are so much fun to tweak, maybe its getting more out of a lesser system which is exciting.

One of my friends is looking to build a PC for around a $600-700 budget. Can you guys come up with a good parts list?

Well, got all my parts ordered! Everything will be here Tuesday.
I may have to get the noctua nh l9a since I'm seeing the h60 may not fit
I have that cooler in my APU build. Awesome little guy.
I'm such a Noctua fanboy since purchasing the cooler last year. Stuff is high quality. When and if they ever start making Black or White cases, they will dominate the industry. The market is almost wide open for them with Gentle Typhoons becoming extinct.

I will be happy to.
Will he stream? This is very important because I need to know if an 8320 or 750K is needed.

I want that cooler, but I already have the h60 so I might as well try and make that fit
Edit: does that cooler come with some of the noctua thermal paste? If it does I may just buy the cooler since I need some paste

Yes, all Noctua cooler's come with the paste. Pretty good thermal paste, same level as Gelid Extreme.

So I put my APU build together all nice and neat without checking the components. I then tried to boot up because its rare I don't get a 1st boot up.
To make a long story short, the Gigabyte FM2+ A88X ships NEEDING A BIOS UPDATE to run the new Kaveri GPUs. The funny thing is, THIS DAMN MOBO WAS MADE FOR KAVERI! Not Richland and the Trinity Killer(Dexter). I now need a Richland or Trinity APU to update the BIOS for my board to start working with Kaveri.
So i'm now waiting on my Richland APU to get here. I sold all my Rickland and Trinity APUs, and shipped the last one off just this week.
Annoying...
EDT: Blah more bad news, my XFX 290 is locked, meaning no cheap 290X for me. I will be selling or returning for the ASUS DCU2 290X. Screw that crappy blower anyway. This way I can have the card to mine and game with if need be. If a WB would be installed, I wouldn't be able to set it inside my server to mine.
EDT 2: 290 Reference coolers are the loudest mad man object on Earth, or the Universe.

Yeah, and that was the plan to do so in my 2nd HTPC.
Now IDK, I might want to purchase another for $499 and mine with it when not using. I really am on my main rig 80-85% and on the others a shared 15% at the most. I'm at a crossroads right now.

Yes it is. The screen on the 3DS XL seems small to me. Couldn't imagine anything else.

Haven't even started playing yet but just browsing on it got so much easier

I was considering buying 2, but the price is still too high per k/h. They're way too high with a good cooler. The Asus Direct CU II is supposed to retail for $429. It's almost $600 :\

I bet. You still haven't played LBWs yet right?
Glad you got the XL version to experience the game more.

Yeah they are if you're buying for mining.
I'm not buying to just mine but to have and maybe mine. They are still retarded overpriced, but oh well.

You received the MOBO? Want me to send the RAM?
Also do you need an SSD? I have a few brand new and unopened 60GB OCZ and Corsairs.
EDT: Im building the GF's little sister a SteamBox with that exact case. Haven't ordered it yet but I believe she will love it in white.
EDT:
I have this Logitech Keyboard/Trackpad for one of my HTPCs, works perfect.
For the livingroom we use a wireless Mac Keyboard and attached Trackpad. Can't have cheap stuff for ppl to see, protecting the image means something to me.

yea I want to buy that RAM too. I'd prefer to buy it used from you rather than someone else.

Nah I'm going to stick with the 2tb. I don't want my roommate to get confused with the 2 drives and download everything to the SSD
