I'm not doing it anytime soon, but the current slate of games still have shitty SLI support. Hopefully some of the future releases will be more optimized

If I'm paying a minimum of $1700 for the GPUs only, I better get 144fps on 4k mother frickah
Posted on 4/16/19 at 4:25 pm to Hu_Flung_Pu
I only paid $600 for my 2080
Posted on 4/16/19 at 4:50 pm to Hu_Flung_Pu
Depending on game idt the 2080Tis can hit close to that in SLi. Get used to paying 2K for video cards before blocks and still wanting more.
But it is a bug we chase.
It sucks.

I'm good until 1440p 240hz monitors get cheaper lol
Posted on 4/17/19 at 9:55 am to Hu_Flung_Pu
You say that now. But just wait. Games will push you to purchase 2K in GPUs every upgrade cycle.
Crazy to think this is normal now. When we first started spending that on GPUs it was rare. It does need to come back down.

I actually think the monitors need to come down. The GPU's are at a pretty good performance right now and can push the frames pretty high on 1440p even on last gen.
1080p monitors can still get in the 500+ range. That's nuts.

1440 is 2012 tech bro.
GPUs aren't at a good performance area. Pascal was more of a leap with price/performance
We have less manufacturers now due to all sorts of reasons. Plus you aren't including the other tech.
Yes high, agree. But panels aren't being produced by 100 different companies any more it is like 3. Plus a lot of new tech going into them. Not just about resolution.
Please use context when talking about 500 buck 1080p displays. Because we have 70 dollar 1080p displays also.

Yet how many people are still buying 1080p 240hz monitors? 4k is for single player games right now. We ain't there for shooters. The first 240hz 1440p just came out this year and it's $1000.

I would say 1440 60hz is 2012 tech, but 1440 144hz is very popular right now. That's probably my next big upgrade

Yeah 1440/144+ is that perfect sweet spot for gaming.
Especially if you can get a high end panel, love my QLED Samsung 10 bit panel. Colors rival my 4K QLED TV.

Thought this tidbit on the PS5 was interesting, Cerny claiming the SSD is faster bandwidth wise than anything available for PC's.

At the moment, Sony won’t cop to exact details about the SSD—who makes it, whether it utilizes the new PCIe 4.0 standard—but Cerny claims that it has a raw bandwidth higher than any SSD available for PCs. That’s not all. “The raw read speed is important,“ Cerny says, “but so are the details of the I/O [input-output] mechanisms and the software stack that we put on top of them.

Yes it is misleading a little but I love the idea.
Obviously it is cached somewhere on some form of low latency volatile memory. So it doesn't speak to said "power" of the PS5 like some news outlets claim but the implementation of a new technique which needs both new hardware and software to support.
I hope this makes it to PC. Which idk why a simimalar thing can't be done with RAMDisk.
You and I both know how misleading that statement is to those who have no clue about storage technology.
Hate statements like those. He is only talking about fast travel. Butp props to him for getting early mindshare.

Of course.
But it's nice knowing it appears they'll actually support SSD's and be optimized for them next gen. Big upgrade no matter what the actual read/write speed is.
You pair that with the confirmed Zen 2 chip 8/16 and that thing is going to run so damn well. Actually insane for a console. I'm excited. If the rumored clocks are real of 2.8GHz base 3.6GHz boost then holy moly hello 7nm benefits those are nutty clocks for a console.

I"m pumped for the feature.
Excited for the next gen PS in general. The library is so fckking good on the console. Yes I'm still not a fan of exclusives but since we live in that world ATM, give me new hardware.

Anyone here using Pop!_OS?
Think I found my new laptop OS. Really like the plugins that come standard.

Work IT is recycling some Thin clients and letting me have 4.
Anyone interested? Will post specs. I will ship, just pay postage. Could be a nice VPN box.
