Do y'all think we'll get to a point where passive coolers are a normal thing for CPUs and GPUs? EVGA makes a 1030 GT with one. I dream of the day when I can build a PC with 0 moving parts.
I guess the high end stuff would take a copper block the size of a rubix cube.

Yeah, that's the thing. You can build a fanless PC today, even one that will play some games, but it won't be close to high-end. I would bet even that 1050 Ti would require some sort of airflow (i.e., case fan) to prevent it from throttling in the most demanding scenarios.

Tom's Hardware Ryzen 7 2700X best overall gaming CPU

AMD to begin sampling 7nm Zen 2 within 2018 for 2019 launch

CPU market is about to get even more interesting these next couple of years with Intel's recent misstep with 10nm delays. Good recent move by AMD to shift a large portion of it's product lines over to TSMC instead of all GloFo as well, cost them a pretty penny though.

You don't even know what interesting even means in this sense.

A new technology introduced by Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) could boost the power of graphics cards by Nvidia and AMD without making them physically larger. The technology is called wafer-on-wafer, and mimics 3D NAND memory technology used in modern solid-state drives by stacking layers vertically rather than spreading the hardware horizontally across the printed circuit board, which would require additional physical space.

Right now, graphics chips produced by Nvidia and AMD rely on a single wafer. But TSMC, the largest dedicated independent semiconductor foundry on the planet, discovered a way to stack two wafers in a single package. The upper wafer is flipped over onto the lower wafer, and then both are bonded together. Moreover, the upper wafer contains the in/out connection piercings (aka thru-silicon vias), thus the duo is packaged using flip-chip technology.

According to TSMC partner Cadence, the technology could see two sets of wafers connecting to each other in a cube-shaped package using what’s called an interposer, an electrical interface that routes one connection to another. More than two wafers could be stacked vertically as well, with all but one wafer sporting the in/out thru-silicon vias connections.

I've just had my 1st power supply ever die on me I THINK. My system just turned itself off on it's own and won't power back on.

PSU is a 550 watt bronze and my system only has a ryzen Apu with no overclocking. I'm a bit stunned that a little system like this was enough to kill a 550 watt bronze PSU.

Does this sound like a dead PSU to you guys? I've never had one die on me and I want to be sure.

You have a tester?

PSUs will be the first to go. Capacitors have a very limited lifespan.

Edt: Yes it does sound like PSU.

I don't unfortunately. I'm just surprised given how small my power draw should have been on this system. It was a budget PSU sure but I figured with such a tiny tdp I would be fine.

I hope the system survived but there's no way to be sure. My Mobo supposedly has a failsafe feature for this but I have no idea if that's a real thing or marketing nonsense.

At least there was no smoke or sizzle sound.

Do you guys have any experience with systems surviving a dead PSU?

More to do with over time of the power drawn.

The system is fine.

Your PSU is just dead. Where are you located?

Jackson MS. Thanks for the answers btw, I've been very lucky for the 4 systems I've built over the years and never had a bad part so this is all new to me.

It's a cooler master masterwatt 550watt bronze. Never used a cooler master PSU after using Corsair and Seasonic in the past. Figured I'd give it a shot since my system only has a ryzen 2400g and no GPU.

My mistake.

I had one fail on me a month or so back. No issues with the rest of the system. Had it for about 4 years but I kept my pc on all the time. Just killed the psu fan. They don't last forever.

The ghetto EVGA model is on sale for $20 on Newegg right now. They also have an EVGA 450W B for $25 with free shipping on B&H.
