Performance is what I was expecting before the bullshite leak hype train.

I would wait until the AIBs(aftermarket) release before ordering tho. The reference offers little to no OC headroom. TPU is more than a 1070. =/

Nvidia is also doing an event July 7th. They could be revealing the 1060.

So it's only slightly better than nearly 3 year old card?

How much did you pay for that 3 year old card?

Ummm.. lol

Yeah but.. it was 3yrs ago. You can get 980s on eBay for 300. I don't understand the hype for performance of 3gens ago. It's priced like a midrange, performs like a mid range because it is a midrange.

If you like midrange, coolz.

Believe me I'll probably get the RX 490 or whatever it's called as well. Hell I'll probably get an aftermarket RX 480 in a couple weeks too.

I was mainly curious how much those cards from a few years ago compare to today in terms of cost. Will the RX 490 cost around the same? I wonder.

Well, it's a mainstream gpu. So ya, midrange.

Also keep in mind that these are release drivers, so performance should improve over time.

This could be a concern for people with cheaper motherboards, however.

The 490 should be the smaller Vega. As far as cost? No. Not even if they use GDD5X. They're not gonna cannibalize their Polaris lineup. I'm hoping for 1080ish performance for ~500. I'll probably be disappointed when they use HBM2 instead and charge 600~.

I hate when ppl use this excuse. Yes it will get a bump but probably not that 7970 jump.

Listen, im not hating on AMD or the card. Think its awesome they are releasing new stuff which will get decent driver support over the next year for that price.

..but still a midrange card.

I was referring to its original cost but I see your point. Sorry, didn't mean to step on your toes.

Thats the issue I hold with the bar chart posted.

Is this current or launch prices?

It is no doubt a great entry card. Seriously awesome. You can get the card with AIB coolers for just a little more with at less a good year of great driver support.

Just don't understand the hype for 3yr old performance. It is a midrange card. lol

Driver improvements do happen when you do changes in arch. I doubt it will the 7xxx series due it's not a completely new one. Just improvements over the last one. It would be nice to see the full benefit at first, I agree.

Yeah, just saying this is stated all the time. Oh wait for the drivers to mature. Yes that is true, but the big AAA titles and benchmark apps get good drivers while the other lesser titles are worked on in future updates.

We will see improvements, but it won't be leaps.

A 5% increase on 60fps would be about 2-3frames. IDT we will see a 10% jump which is about 5-6frames.

No, $299 I'm sure.

Maybe the 1500MHz OC card since it benches just below a 980ti but I still doubt it goes above $329.

Did notice a slight improvement on 3dmark on the newer drivers.
