Is PerformancePC the only option state side for blocks now? Their S/H charges are so crazy it almost pays to order directly from EK.

I've had orders with missing fittings and then a complete order with the wrong color fittings.

Just hate dealings with them. FrozenCPU was such a good experience when purchasing.

I ordered my 980 blocks from them because FrozenCPU was taking too long to get them in stock. No issues with the order, though it was a simple order.

I'm getting tired of the cost of full-cover blocks. If the 980 blocks magically fit the 980 Tis (I know they can't), I'd sell my 980s right now.

Hey guys, I'm probably about to sound silly since I don't know stuff, but I got some PC questions.

I'm trying to upgrade my PC to get it ready for Fallout, Battlefront, etc. I bought my PC off craigslist for just 400 dollars about 2 or so years ago and it was a beast then. Now games are starting to catch up with it and I figure since I have a little disposable income I should perform some upgrades. I've only changed the PSU so I'm a little nervous and paranoid.

I'm pretty set on this CPU. I have an AM3+ socket so I'm pretty sure that'll work out just fine.

GPU is another story. When I look at GPU I see a gazillion words I don't understand and kinda get uneasy. My current card is a Radeon 6950 made by Sapphire. I figured I stick with the same company so I was looking closely at this one. 169 dollars, plus a rebate, plus a game is a really good deal. Are there any catches to this card that I'm missing? Or is it a good one? Anyway I have a 600 watt PSU, that should be enough to cover the usage for this card? Also I have 2 6 pin connector thingys so this card should work fine?

Sorry for the bombardment, I'm really anxious to make these upgrades but I'm so unsure about dropping much money on all this. I'm worried I'll miss some small detail and the graphics card will be incompatible.

Also, once I get the new CPU and GPU installed is there anything I need to do like software wise or do I just boot up my computer and try it out like nothing changed?

TIA, hopefully I learn some things lol

Need to know your motherboard and current CPU before I can say whether the 8350 is a good idea or not.

R9 280 is good. It will perform about twice as well as your 6950. I'd recommend looking for a used 280x on ebay for even less. AMD is also unveiling their new cards and rebrands in a couple of weeks, and I'm sure there will be price drops on these old cards, plus a flood of even more used ones on eBay.

Probably, since the 280 has the same power draw. Just so you know, wattage doesn't tell the whole story. I'm curious -- what's the brand and model of the PSU?

This is my CPU and this is my motherboard

Corsair CX600M I was really unsure if it would do it since the Sapphire site said the card needed a 750watt but I imagine they keep those numbers higher than reality to avoid liability or something of that sort.

PSU and mobo are fine (don't expect to OC the CPU). Thing is, you may not notice much of a difference in gaming performance with an 8350. Its single-threaded performance is maybe 5-10% better than your CPU, and rarely do any games use more than 4 cores. You'd see a much more significant boost with the GPU upgrade. When you have more money to spend, put it towards a new motherboard and an i5.

Excited about PC gaming and hardware again?

Man, 2013 was a dull and 2014 a wash.

Excited and wishing I had more money.

But this crap...

The unlocked Broadwell CPUs have Iris Pro, which makes them cost a little more and are probably useless for the vast majority of folks who specifically want the unlocked CPUs.

I know, paying a premium for an unlocked Intel chip plus the extra for Iris Pro. Not really enthusiasts friendly.

Wish I could get back into the enthusias mood for PC hardware, but I've moved away from it for now. My TCG addiction and moving towards games like Catan and ticket to ride have made me forget about my PC

I've only got my htpc left, which isnt even a full build... I've managed to use that PC money to make 7 Pokemon TCG decks for $500, which would normally cost around $1000 or so. This is an even worse addiction than my PC building

So AMD's demo of the Fury at Computex showed it not performing as well as the 980 Ti. AMD says it's just a prototype and they are tweaking the drivers and clocks.

This is worrying.

Update: Our sources close to AMD have reported that any reports of performance issues at this time are pointless. We have concrete confirmation that the GPU will launch at E3 – so we have something to look forward to very soon and will get a chance to see its final performance as well.
