was reading on OCN today that there are BIOS out which unlocks voltages. Just FYI.
If you need help flashing ask me on the weekend, it is SUPER FCKING EASY.. especially nVidia.
I've tried flashing it a bunch of times, but it fails to flash every single time.

installed the new 7970. A couple notes. Not much coil whine to speak of but this thing doesn't dissipate heat as well as my gigabyte 670. When looping valley it hits 71 when the 670 hit 60. That being said, the 670 was voltage locked so there really wasn't any way to push it much further. The 7970 hits a pretty constant 60 degrees in game. I haven't changed the voltage or mem clock any, just bumped the core clock to 1125.
Still working on my synthetic benchamrks, but for some reason this thing gets trashed by 400 points in valley compared to my old card. Still trying to figure it out.
In game, it runs BI more smoothly than my 670 on same settings. I ran into some massive framerate drops when opening doors and stuff that I am not experiencing now. Lots more testing to do. Will report back when I have a better idea of how it handles crysis3 and witcher2.

What drivers are you running? I've never used valley so I don't know much about that benchamrking

the latest one i guess. I downloaded it from powercolor. I didn't see in catalyst where to access beta drivers. So far I have found that catalyst does more things than nvidia control panel but is not too intuitive. help me out blue.

Did you download 12.10 or 12.11 (only ones i see under their driver section)?
Whenever you look for drivers, always go to AMDs site to get them. I would grab the newest 13.2 beta drivers

frick.
Max settings, 1440p. Crysis 3 looks at my 7970 and shakes its head in shame.
And now I'm going to have to do something about that.

I'm convinced that is the goal of the crysis series.
eta: Anyone picking up the razor edge to benchmark it?

Titans just warming up with everything plus 8x AA
All seriousness it is a stressful game, wait until you get inside te dome.. That is when the pressure gets put on your gpu. My titans scream in pain when lens flare starts comin in all directions.

7790 for 150? That is an interesting gpu for a possible steam box.
saw some buzz about that on TH. seems like a good option.

what do you get when you mix an mITX board with a giant, fanless cpu cooler in the hopes of making a silent pc?

Looks like if you would put an alcohol engine in my VW passat.

Just turn down the settings. And if you're only playing at 1080p, it won't be too bad. There seems to be a major jump in GPU resource requirements when gaming at 1440p vs 1080p -- maybe even a disproportionate jump (i.e. 33% more pixels requiring 50% more GPU power).
But the good part about it is you can turn off MSAA completely in most games and not notice a difference in graphic quality at 1440.

Linus was getting in the 30-40fps range on ultra with AA using a 660ti and 3570k on 1080p. Its an extremely taxing game

This was posted in the Titan section of the OCN forums. Thought it was pretty funny. Lol

They posted any more of that frame rating article? They appear to be a bit behind when I looked.

Not sure.. I haven't been following it.
