I bought my son the Asus ROG 512GB yesterday. It’s nice. I haven’t physically seen the “Steam” brand in person except when I was in Japan. Those are really nice. I haven’t seen anywhere to physically compare them.

tbh I had completely forgot about the rog ally. I game through steam link primarily on an -

ASUS - ROG 13.4" Touchscreen Gaming Laptop - AMD Ryzen 9 - 16GB Memory - NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 Ti V4G Graphics - 1TB SSD

After reading this ally vs oled steam deck review, I’m probably about to go to my local Best Buy and get an ally for $400.

i enjoy my steam deck. whenever my back hurts or i just want to stretch out on the sofa instead of sitting at my PC i fire it up. it will run a lot of games with no problems

ETA i bought my deck off ebay so i didnt pay full price for it

Only downsides I’m seeing is battery life (I’ll have it plugged in 90% of the time) and the joysticks/feel of it in your hands (I’ll try it out in person before I buy it, hoping the control feel negatives are overblown)

I bought the oled version. I pretty much use it as my console . I have it docked to my 75 inch samsung tv. Like mentioned above, sometimes you need to get away from the computer desk and enjoy some couch gaming. If you have the disposable income, you won't regret it. Of course, it's great when on the go. Elden Ring plays really well on it. Obviously won't play on Ultra settings like a top tier gaming pc but medium settings looks great on the oled.

Get a case and screen protector. Also I recommend this Docking station on Amazon so you can play on your TV. Right now, it's 50% off. Haven't had any issues with it when playing on the couch.

I love my Steam Deck and use it a lot, but I mostly use Sunshine/Moonlight to play games on my Steam Deck streamed from my PC.

I'm interested in this. How does that compare to big picture mode?

Ended up getting the rog ally extreme yesterday.

Went into Best Buy planning on paying $400 for one, but realized that price was for the regular rog ally and upon reading reviews I was better off paying extra to get the extreme. So ended up paying $700.

Bought a usb hub on Amazon and plan on hooking it up to my tv. Reading reviews yesterday and they said the 1080p of the ally does really well hooked to a large screen, whereas the 720p of the steam deck is noticeable.

It allows me to use it just like I use my computer and for some reason I have a lot less latency with Moonlight. Big Picture mode is much more limited.

Did you compare the Rog to the Legion Go? I've been looking at both but really like the larger screen and higher refresh rate on the Legion Go.

Legion Go

Saw and put hands on one in Best Buy. Strongly considered it.

It’s substantially bigger and has slightly better specs, but the reviews said it had too many issues to buy it in its first iteration. IMO it’s like they threw the hardware together to get better specs than the rog without working out the issues. LINK
