I just got it Monday and started last night. I love it! And yes, the game playability is great. This is my first Elder Scrolls game, and I jumped right into it. Just make sure to explore your menu and character menu. The interface is stupid simple.

The one and only complaint I have about the GUI is unlocking shouts. I had like 10 dragon souls saved up and I couldn't get it to unlock by pressing enter on the shout I wanted... then I looked down and realized I had to press a different button to unlock.. not very intuitive and it was maddening before I figured it out

Keybinds are jacked up, if you change one that has an alternate function it doesn't also change the alternate function. I remapped "use" but it will not also "pick up" after remapping.

I just killed krosis while completing a misc mission and this thing was tough as shite. Took me like 4 tries but I knew there was a shout there and it dropped some awesome stuff as well. this fireball staff thing is the bomb

SUPER UBER SPOILER Skill up guide.
FIRST thing do not use these as a guide for how to play the game, I did not use them until I had finished the main quest, all the guilds, and most of the major story lines. If you use them right away you will rob yourself of the real feel for the game.
Use gear appropriate to what you are doing i.e., magika regen, blocking, sneak, or skill specific.
I advise using your 5 purchasable skill ups each level for skills you will not use much. Also visit the Lovers Stone for an increase in skill ups.
ILLUSION; Cast Courage on the loud mouth priest in Whiterun over and over.
SNEAK: Go to an in back up to a wall behind a bartender, sneak, and hold down the back button.
ALTERATION: Get the spell Detect Life and stand by the tree in Whiterun and cast it, when you are done kill the frikking priest because you will be tired of hearing him.
WEAPON SKILLS: Beat the shite out of Shadowmere with the weapons, Throat of the World works well so you don't get random mobs or dragons.
RESTORATION and DESTRUCTION: Combine Healing hands Flames on Shadowmere, again at Throat of the World.
SPEECH: Go to the Black-Brian Meadery in Riften and Persuade the bartender over and over.
BLOCKING and ARMOR: Find a wolf and back up to something so they can't get behind you and hold down block. There is a wolf north of Riverwood that you can pull down and back up into a hollow tree. When you are high enough the wolf will not do any damage so you can let him beat you for armor skill ups, i suggest dragon scale armor to get light armor skill ups.
CONJURATION: Go up north find some horkers move to a rock where they can't hit you, cast Bound Sword in each hand, sheath them and repeat.
ENCHANTING AND SMITHING: Buy iron ingots, iron or (smelt into iron ingots) leather, and leather strips from the smithing chick at the gate in whiterun and the guy inside, make iron daggers, enchant them with soultrap. Carry some to sell back when you buy supplies.
ALCHEMY: This one was hard for me. I fast traveled to the major cities and bought all the ingredients from the alchemy vendors, I usually made three rounds and then made potions. The fortify line, invisibility, and slow potions seemed to net me the best skill ups. Three ingredient pots are the best. Keep some pots on you to sell to the alchemy vendors after you buy ingredients to get your money back.

Mannnnnnnn, that ain't fun when there is patented process to grind all the skills up

That's why I said don't use it as a guide to play the game, I have only used it to flesh out skills I don't use. I have 200+ hours in the game, and still have a lot to do.

For power leveling super early....
Before you get out of the initial city.. when you get to the bear, the guy leading you will stop.
Feel free to level destruction and one handed to your hearts content by attacking your nice guide. He won't die or attack back.
I just started my new toon and spent 2 hours flaming the guy to get my destruction to lvl 40.
I'm going 100% pure mage....or at least I will attempt to do that for this build.
I'm not going to touch alch, smithing or enchanting for a good long time. I like sniping bandits but I'm going to stay away from the bow. ALL Magic.
DoUrden... can I use heavy armor and magic? I know I can wear it but does it cause a huge penalty for magic damage?

Yes you can use it, but I don't think you can get the best "bonuses" on heavy armor most of the armor with the best casting buffs are non-DE from my experience. A mage type should be able to confirm this.

Bethesda has said they love making DLC and there were two DLC packs in Oblivion.

Once I max out my main I am going to make an alt to do the stuff I don't want to do on my main like mass slaughter.
The great thing about this game is that almost all builds are available to switch to at anytime minus some perks if you focus on one build.

quote:You can get pretty strong with any character class but because of the limited perks, you won't be uber in every class although I am not sure this is true because the uber gear probably makes up for missing perks.

what dlc is coming?
Plus if you have the computer version, people will be building lots of little DLC and a few big packs.

Thanks for all the answers, guys.
I'd still like some of y'all to post your characters and gear just to see what some other people are using.
Once I got my blacksmithing to like lvl 60 just from making stuff to sell, I went ahead and did a bunch of iron dagger and hide bracers to bump it up to 100 ... I think I'm going to need to adjust the difficulty, b/c with awesome armor and weapons, I'm just ripping through people.

Even at Master Level difficulty the game becomes way to easy once you max your attack/def and have 100 smithing gear made with lvl 100 enchanted smithing gear after drinking a level 100 alch smithing potion.
My main character has all daedric armor with one of the Dragon Priest Masks. I used the one with waterbreathing just because I like looking around underwater.
I have 85% Magic Resistance
I think I had over 100% one handed bonus
I think I have about 90% faster health and stamina regen.
That is an uber end game build which makes killing anything easy. One of the reasons I have started over.
I am sure at some point Bethseda might patch some limits on max stacked boosts.

It would take to many screens to post but here is what I rock:
All honed to Lengendary.
Daedric Bow: soultrap, 22 fire damage ebony arrows
Daedric Mace: soultrap, absorb 22 stamina
Daedric War Axe: absorb 18 health, target takes 22 frost damage to health and stamina
Daedric Armor: health regen 28% 56 stamina
Daedric Boots: 1h 36% damage, fire resist 33%
Daedric Guantlets: heavy armor skill 22, carrying capacity 33
