Welp, I played for a couple days and my fps was staying above 100 with no choppiness.
Got back on today and my fps won't stay above 40-45 and the game is choppy as hell.
Zero mention of it or a solution by blizzard. Starting to regret the purchase.

I picked up the game last week and made it to 21; so far I really enjoy Soldier: 76 and McCree for offensive rounds and Widowmaker for defense.

Sounds to me like an issue with your machine.
What are your specs?
I have not seen a single issue.

It's not. My PC runs any other game I play on extremely high settings just fine. Not to mention, there are a shite ton of other people having the same issue.
During the beta, the game ran around 100-120 fps on very high settings. I haven't changed anything, and now after one of the patches a couple weeks ago, I can get maybe 60 fps and after about 5-10 mins of play, it won't go above 40 and consistently dips to 20. Changing graphics to the lowest they can go doesn't change the fps at all.

Not sure why it would work exceedingly well for the beta, then drop my fps by more than half a couple weeks after the release.
ETA: Finally found some official recognition. Although it seems they have no idea how to fix it just yet.

The threads on the official tech support site have 20+ page limit for posts, and players are already on thread 3 that is about to get shut down due to maxing out on posts concerning the fps drop
If for nothing else, I'm just interested to see what the issue is and why it only affects certain players.

It was reported today that the recent update has been messing with people's FPS; I'm sure there will be a fix soon.

We had the most awesome team kill today. I wish I could have recorded it. I may have to start recording games.
We were attacking Objective A on Numbani.
Zarya hit her Ultimate to pull all the players in and then Junkrat and my Pharah both hit our Ultimates at the same time. The kill spam was glorious!!!

Time flies while playing this game. I love it so much. The lore is amazing. The memes are amazing. I hope Blizzard supports the shite out of it, they really created an awesome universe.

If you have Nvidia Shadowplay they have a macro set where you can record the previous minute, I believe.

I'm not sure how I stack up since I haven't been playing for very long. I am confident in my junk rat though. Very difficult to play him with 20 fps dips

Shadowplay is the best video capture software I've used. The resolution is amazing and seamless. Super easy to use, as well.
Here's one I recently recorded and turned into a GIF (though imgur makes the resolution look worse than how the recording looks on my computer)

I noticed what you mean today. I decided to play with my settings based on what you said.
I have a 3570k, 16GB RAM, and a GTX980.
I basically get 50-60 FPS regardless of my settings.
It's like the game just complete ignores the settings.
EDIT...
Found my issue. I completely forgot that I had an old 650 in my PC for "dedicated Physx" from when I had a GTX 680 as my main GPU
I disabled the old 650 and my FPS shot back up to 120+ on Ultra and 70+ on Epic. Good luck. Hope you find what the issue is.

Hmmm, maybe someone snuck a 2nd card into my case
I've been following the support thread on the Overwatch website. Hopefully they find a remedy soon.
