I've died 15 times so far and have not found a weapon. When I was able to find a deer stand, it only had a shitty chemlight then an a-hole zombie climbed up the ladder and did work on me. Anybody got any tips

Read the OP and watch some videos on Youtube. There are some by CODanonymous that are pretty good for beginners

Go into one of the main cities and hit up the apartment buildings with a cafe on the bottom. Also, if you are outside of a city, check the barns.

Whenever it gets stuck there, it is the dayz server taking forever. Used to happen all the time when the mod was first getting popular. Don't quit and join another server, or you will get put back at the end of the queue.

Right, anytime you get stuck at that particular step, every server will be doing it. It's a problem with the dayz character server that gives the actual game server you are trying to join your character data.
