stiffness is something to pay attention too, however most people under 40 will probably require a stiff shaft in their driver unless they swing like a girl or are a girl.
their are other things that are involved in choosing a driver shaft for example the kick point and torque of the shaft. these things can change distance and ball flight as a result of spin and launch angle. the best thing to truly do if you are going to invest in a $300-$400 driver is to get fitted correctly or go through the process of learning these unnecessary things about a golf shaft that no one besides a fitter should know.
At least after doing this you can't blame the club.
