Apparently, day 1 patch isn't fixing syncing issue with left joycon

quote:

The Nintendo Switch's day one system update has launched, and there are reports online that installing the patch with the Joy-Cons attached updates the firmware on the controllers, resolving the de-sync issues. Is this really the case? Unfortunately not. We've updated our console with controllers attached and re-run the battery of tests detailed below. In all cases, the range and consistency of the connection of each Joy-Con remains the same, and the left controller still has demonstrably weaker range than the right. Eurogamer has contacted Nintendo several times now concerning this issue, and we still await a reply.

The rest of the article includes them testing range and obstruction with the joycons if anyone is interested.

They need to fix it but won't impact my Zelda weekend one bit

The issue will be for games like arms. Or for people with giant hands. I have little Marco Rubio hands

At 1-12 feet it's fine if it's pointed forward.

They definitely need to fix it though. People with big mits are going to get pissed if they didn't buy a pro controller

Who plans on playing it like this?

I feel like I'll never play it this way.

well the hook is the numerous ways you can play.

but is that when the issue is happening, when people are using it like the wii remote and nunchuck?

Cnet review said that if you play that way, you pretty much have to be right on top of it. Text becomes too hard to read at any distance. Also, a group of people gathering around it like they've shown in promotional material doesn't seem practical.

so the issue is when you split the joycons and turn them horizontally

yikes, they need to fix that asap if local multiplayer is going to work, but now i'm confused...how was this happening when people were playing Zelda?

No idea. Dan Ryckert had issues with it and switched to a pro controller, and he's a small guy so no big hand problems. Maybe docked and too far back on your couch?

digital foundry says it's "perfect" pointed forward at 4 meters which is 13 feet

but I like the joycons for their versatility, and I will want them for multiplayer because of the simple snes design. i'm pretty sure they will fix it, but they need to do it soon. i'm going to play Zelda it looks like for a couple of months if the reviews are accurate but I will want to play bomberman and snipperclips as a change of pace.

My thing with the pro controller is I like that the right analog has better placement because the joycons make trade offs to accomplish the versatility, but I hate those big arse buttons

It's already the fourth highest reviewed game ever on metacritic

1. Ocarina of Time
2. Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2 (what the frick?!?)
3. GTA IV
4. Breath of the Wild
