Didn't get to watch any of the games yesterday with the College World Series taking my full attention but...

So far it seems like all the teams trying non standard comps are losing, while the teams playing the safe standard style are winning.

Going to need some more time and games but I think this meta may be bad for NA. I think it suits the higher overall skill players you see in KR and the likes. Bang/Uzi etc playing Yasuo/Vlad/Irelia they look like gods still and are just insanely good players, then you watch these NA teams try it and they look just fricking awful.

I think early on, this meta will widen the East vs West gap a bit.

I do still think that by the time Worlds comes around the meta will be patched back to a way more standard draft, but teams will always have the opportunity to bust out a non standard draft vs the right comp and win.

Doublelift on Vlad wasn't good at all. He looked so uncomfortable. Someone even said on Reddit that he flat out said on stream that he still had a lot to work to do on Vlad and wasn't good at him - a week later he picks him game 2.

It seems like all the actual players are enjoying the meta, but I just don't think Riot lets it be for too long.

I 100% expected TSM to run the "Super Yi" strat with Taric/Yi since Bjerg and Grig played it a lot in solo q, but Taric was banned both games against them I think.

Doublelift was big on Xayah and Zven was strong on Kaisa in both their game ones. Zven also played Varus to pretty good effect in Game two. So some marksman are still viable.

Irelia is such a good champ in that meta right now. It's picked or banned atm.

And yesterday Cody Sun looked even worse than DL. Those were your #1 and #2 adc's last split in NA.

In KR you see them pick it and they can pull it off and look good and execute the comps. NA is a total mess trying to run that comp right now.

All of the weaker teams can just run standard comp and beat the better teams trying to adapt to the new meta early on.

I think this is Riot putting their finger on the meta scale for a little bit to show players that they have been too formulaic for too long.

ADCs are probably a bit weak now, but I think this just meant to show that ADC not always and Mid carry always is not really true.

One of the big things I like about the state of Meta and pro play is when you lock someone in, you could play them so many different ways.

Champs like Vlad and Irelia can go top/mid/bot, Yasuo Mid or bot.. it's a nice twist on champ select that can bait the other teams into unfavorable matchups. I think in week one, SKT was playing Afreeca (maybe?) and they locked in Yasuo. Faker picked Darius but it was a bot Yas, so Faker just followed Yas bot with Darius.

Crit item hotfix went out yesterday, follow up buffs to individual marksmen still to come for the weaker ones.

Other than maybe one or two fringe Jg/Top or Top/Supp flex picks, LoL has been insanely devoid of any complex strategy during the draft for a long time. This has been good to see.

Kingzone 2-0 sweeps KT, both stomps. Back to business for them.

SKT benches Blank, Faker, Bang and Wolf. They lose 2-1 to MVP. SKT falls to 0-3.

Wait, did they bench them for the game they just loss, or did they bench them after the loss for the next game?

I guess I could go look.

Blossom is an absolute dumpster fire, not particularly surprising.

I got you, so they got benched for the MVP series and lost 2-1.

I wonder how long they run with the backups.

Man how crazy that team is now. How dominant they used to be. Changing jungle and top really has change their whole dynamic.

Bang and Wolf aren’t what they used to be and their Top/Jungle situation continues to get worse and worse. The team seems like it needs a whole re-build at this point.

I wonder if there will be a point where Faker walks. I'm willing to bet that they would try to pay him anything he wants to stay but it would still be intriguing.

Fnatic the next big name team to bench starters for this week.

Fnatic to bench Rekkles - starting Soaz, Broxah, Caps, Bwipo, and Hylissang to get both of their top laners in the game, according to their Twitter.

I haven't been playing or keeping up with pro play.

Are all these benchings due to the starters' inability to adapt to the whacky new meta?

I don’t think the C9 change was meta related. Especially not with Reapered’s comments.

SKT and Fnatic, I have no clue. One theory is to have your starters stay playing regular meta champs under the assumption this meta will change soon. That seems far fetched, but who knows.

Seeing SKT bench Faker for - whatever that shitshow was - is strange.

Seems like the Fnatic change is due to meta. They said due to "strategy" on their twitter. They want two top laners to be able to play two bruisers.

The C9 stuff is more of under performance/motivation. Reapered and Jack pretty much said that the main team was being out worked/played by the academy team.

The SKT stuff was just a cluster.

SKT subs them all back in and still gets 2-0 stomped by Griffin. Bang looks so bad. SKT is now 0-4.

Griffin is now 5-0 in the LCK which is just unheard of for a promotion team in their first split. No star players, no big names.

I think it's time to start coming to terms with a Worlds without SKT in it.
