At some point, Preston and the Minutemen will attack the BoS. You will lose the BoS if you side with the Minutemen.

You need to do a few missions for everyone because that makes the wasteland seem more alive.

Once you are in the BOS, then you have roving packs of BOS walking around killing things.

Minutemen groups walking around killing things.

Railroad groups killing things.

Non-hostile synths killing things, including hostile synths.

Just makes things even more interesting in the wasteland with all of the various groups going at it all over the place.

Bunker Hill seems to be one of the pivotal moments. I don't think you can piss people off too much before that quest.

Ran into a horde of Ferals in a dust storm. Holy shite balls! I could hear Dogmeat growling and attacking but couldn't see him. Could only see the Ferals when they were right on top of me. Pretty much just sprayed bullets into the wasteland until everything quit moving.

I sided with the Minutemen and that never happened. The BOS people just started ignoring me or saying the were too busy to talk.

Do you lose any settlements if you side with one faction over the other? i.e. The Castle or Boston Airport?

Boston Airport
If the BOS turns against you, you lose the Airport but so what. It is a crappy settlement because you can't build a bunch of items there.

It would be ideal with the flat space but it sucks.

I didn't turn on the Minutemen so I don't know if you lose The Castle or other spots.

It's amazing. I've put in countless hours and have started over three times, yet I still learn/encounter something new several times a day.

If you like building settlements, the weapon drop/store glitch is your friend. No more settlement limits to be had.

Can I equip my companion with better weapons or is that not worth my time?

i always hook mine up with incendiary mini-guns. its pretty awesome watching them go to work.

you can trade items to them then equip with a triangle or whatever xbox equivalent.

also, their default weapon has unlimited ammo, but if you equip a gun for them, you have to stock them up with ammo too.

Their initial weapons are weak. However if you arm them with good weapons, they tear through the ammo. Plus their aim tends to suck.

This play through, I'm not really relying on them for much of anything. They are there to absorb pain, that's about it.

I'm getting sick of using up all my stimpacks. I went with a weak endurance build this time, so I have had to use most of my stims to this point.

So...doing the railroad quests to get that weave armor.

For a while I didn't have any stimpaks. I would fight some and then go find a bed nearby. Very hard is pretty unforgiving early on in the game. I run away a lot.

Last play, I had like 300.

I had a lot of early points in endurance.

This time I think I started with 1 endurance so I use most of them. I've bumped it up to 3 or 4 but I keep getting smacked hard and grenades and mines do massive damage.

I'll get the weave perk and then those mines and grenades won't touch me.
