I was catching up and read the post where you were thinking of going with the Institute. I was just about to say you're going to hate life siding with them. Too late now. I went back and joined the BoS and decided to actually continue with them after the main quest.

Tip to anyone who joins the BoS but also wants to remain in good standings with Preston: In the final act, be sure to select the evacuation notice on Father's terminal.

I think whenever I get time to play again, I'm just going to go back to previous save. Kinda sucks because I got to like level 59 going through the Institute quests, and on the final turn-in I got lucky and Idiot Savant hit and gave me 2.5 levels. But I want to experience the other endings without starting all over on my settlements. There's still a part of me that says I can make way better settlements and a better character now that I understand the game, though, and it's nagging at me to start over for that reason.

I had the same dilemma with Skyrim. I wanted to try other classes but didn't want to start over for a while.. then after a few months of not playing I came back to it on a new character and beat it again. Perhaps that's the route to take with FO4 for me.

I just started doing the story mission after a bunch of sidetracks and I just made it to the intitute, I "joined" them at first but this can't be the lock in join yet is it? I think I'd rather stay w/ the minutemen. I did get the network scanner on the holotape back to Sturges.

I quicksaved right before the institute, and the moment father walks out the door and reveals himself, I killed him with the world series bat it immeditatly tells you to exit after that. So I reloaded the save and I went with "joining" them (like I've now 'joined' all factions)

When does it lock you into a faction?

It will let you know before you make enemies of other factions. That starts about 5 missions into the institute questline.

You can even continue the Institute quest line, while not pissing off the minutemen, if your charisma is high enough when the Institute/Minutemen mission happens.

Things can go sour with Bunker Hill.

It is possible to piss off folks with this one if not completed correctly.

I haven't stopped by the BOS since I did it, so not sure if we are still friends.

I killed a bunch of BoS during bunker hill (didn't realize I didn't need to for a while), but they weren't my enemies until the game specifically said "doing this will make you enemies with BoS"

Maybe it is just the institute. Cause you can fail and piss the institute off for good if you don't answer Father the right way.

I think I'm ready to side with a faction and finish the game. My weapons are set, I have ballistic weave, and I've done nearly everything I feel like doing.

I'm there to.

I have "Nuclear Option (railroad version)" sitting in my mission queue just waiting. I think I'll finish it up tonight.

The game doesn't reset, right? It lets you keep building and exploring without starting a new character?

Yep. You roll through an ending sequence and it plops you back in the world post-ending.

Finished finally. Need to take a Fallout break.

Father had no idea. Poor bastard thought he was sending me to kill Desdemona, only to have me show back up with her and wreck that place.

He'd been a bad boy in the years since he was kidnapped, so I punished him with a railroad spike through the head, then stole his _____ to replace the ___ I lost.

Geez, there have been spoilers all over this damn thread! But whatever...edited.

I'm pretty sure you could infer that your faction has to take down the institute at some point, right?

You only have two main choices. Side with the institute or pick a faction to attack the institute.

I haven't come close to finishing the main story and I haven't felt spoiled by anything.

At this point it wouldn't matter since I've played about 10,000 hours and I'm level 110.

I've seriously been thinking about starting over. I have learned a lot on this character and know somethings I want to do differently. i also want to do a better job with my settlement management. I've unlocked a ton that I have done absolutely nothing with.

Unless you need to do the main story differently, there is no reason to reboot.

Perk points are easy so even if you think you wasted a ton of points it doesn't matter, you can level easy enough.

Do you ever actually run out of side quests? I am lvl 61 and just went inside the institute for the first time. Once the main story is finished, are you done with everything? I realize you can still rape and pillage until you've killed everything on the map but after that...

Yeah. They did a good job imo with the glowing sea. You're not at abernathy farm anymore that's for sure.

It's pretty big. A lot to explore. Pretty barren but that makes sense. Lot of stuff underground

I just ran to the objective. I didn't branch out, but I plan to check it out this weekend. I didn't have much time to play tonight.
