Na. I have all of the settlements and all have at least a Bar and a Trading shop.
After a few days of playing, I can stop by and pick up 850 to 1000 caps per settlement. So that is over 20k when I do a cap run. Maybe a little longer than a few days. Might be the first run of the weekend that I get that much.

I used to always have 0 caps. Then I invested in the perk that you find more caps, the perk that you find more ammo, and the scrapper perk.. Now I rarely buy ammo, I find lots more caps, and I rarely have to buy any materials. I only have ~$2k caps right now but I don't play nearly as much as I'd like to.

I never bought much ammo other than .44.
Now I buy gamma and plasma. I use the other ammo as cash.
I had high luck to start my build and that made finding ammo much easier. Heck, I just recently started putting points in the ammo finding because I want more gamma and plasma.

Around 15kish caps, but I buy any type of supply and basically any junk on any vendor. Although, my carry weight is around 2800. 
That keeps me from making multiple trips to pick up every, single, fricking thing.
This plasma rifle I got recently is OP as frick. 108 ballistic and energy damage each with a fire rate of 113. Had a flock of 6 adjective ferals, 2 legendary, they were all dead on a 30 round clip. With like 6 shots to spare on a 30 rounder.

My carry is set to 100,000. I pick up everything, even that dish rag.

Wait until you level out Rifleman, bloody mess and pick up The Last Minute.
658 damage with out chems atm.
Edt: Fav gun is still the Overseer's Guardian.

I'm only missing the last perk in bloody mess, I think. Rifleman and commando are maxed out. Would be nice to find a legendary plasma rifle doe. Science is also maxed out. What does the last minute do?

There is the Experiment 18 blah blah something, which is easy to find. The only good plasma rifle I had drop was a Violet Plasma Rifle. Does 25% more damage and limb damage but more recoil. The recoil is harsh, too much for it to take place over The Overseer's Guardian.

25% limb damage, but actually use a legend drop which is a Mighty Guasse Rifle. Does 25% damage more overall.

You sure you're not confusing a gauss rifle with a plasma? I have a gauss that does 558, but I'm tempted to just put it away, even with all the shite I can carry.

I converted my plasma rifle to an auto, but find it hard to believe it can do 600+ per shot. You sure you aren't getting that confused with a slow firing guass?

I just beat the main story line mission and as I did, I hit the rare 5x Idiot Savant perk I have.
I went up alost 4 levels
EDIT: Wait, make that 4. Something changed after I got out of leveling up

Sweet. I finished a mission a while back that gave me 2 levels when it proced. Can't imagine almost 4 off that.

I quick saved right before you finish and receive xp. Tried reloading a few times to trigger Idiot Savant but it never went off.

4 levels in science, fully modded and full rifleman perks. I hate the damn recharge rate on that, doe. I'm better off with any other weapon it seems like, sans a sneak shot. O and bloody mess perk on the 2nd level.
