Ya, this was the first boss i beat that i felt was completely dependent on getting a favorable series of attacks. The energy canon or whatever was the one that always got me. Sometimes it was one blast, sometimes 3, right when i staggered up got pummed again.

Took down Greatwood. I know he's supposed to be easy but I had a hard time finding a last ballsack to attack without getting grabbed by fleshy arm.

First game in the series I'm going to try this on... Prayers needed

I've done multiple sl1 runs on 1 and 2, and the late game bosses in 3 made me want to kill myself. It's more like waste of skin, it gets to be less about skill and more about luck. The difference is that bosses like Manus and Artorias are still loads of fun at base level, I can't say the same for bosses like Aldrich, Pontiff or the Twin Princes - bosses that are hell-bent on you losing.

Crystal Sage down. That was easy.
Also took down the stray demon on the top of the wall in Farron's Keep.

Is there any reason for me to kill nameless King on ng+1? It's ng+2 that has an item behind him right?

Im about to fight Yhorm, which will be my third lord of cinder.
After that, are most of the other areas optional? Im at about 40hrs and getting ready to wrap up the main quest so i can get to watching and reading lore.
Will i be able to circle back after the kiln, or does the game auto-NG+?

Correct. NG+2 for the last ring.

NG+ or 'journey 2' is activated manually at Firelink whenever you are ready.

I'm still pondering if I want to put myself through the nameless king twice... I'm also currently sitting at like 1.5mil souls and nothing to do with them, so I'm going to go on and beat the last 3 bosses at least before going back to the Nameless King.

you still have 3 main bosses that are not optional.
You also have 1 more boss that most people end up doing because, though optional, is a part of the lore, and is super easy to get to without even going off the beaten path. If you continue past that boss, there is 1 more that also brings a lot to the lore discussion as well.

1.5mil souls lost because of a stupid wrong move... Yay

yhorm was a yawner. thought the profaned capitol as a whole would be much cooler.
andf this emma/teleport mechanic is fricking bullshite. didnt get a chance to light the boss bonfire, and now the dancer is hoarding 2 levels worth of souls. felt like i had the hang of it, down to alittle below half, then got grabbed in a insta-kill. really wouldve liked to have been able to level up first.
