Why on earth would you show a game 18 months before release at e3?

sorry - why would you premiere a game at a developer's conference that's 18 months out?
I understand why a console would want to show off what it "can" do - but the developer can premiere a game anytime... they just want sales once it's released

Different game.
Phone Destroyer is just a mobile game (I'm assuming, didn't pay attention to icons at the end). Fractured But Whole was shown earlier.

wasn't "final fantasy 7 remastered" announced two years ago and that's a remake of a 15 year old game that's still like 3 years away.

So the Mario game looked like it could be lots of fun... we know South Park will be hilarious, Assassins' Creed could end up being a fresh restart.
But the rest of the conference was kinda ... meh

arse Creed, Far Cry, and South Park. I'm down with it. I got an awful vibe for Bryond Good and Evil 2..."help us develop the game." Don't see it coming out before 2019, if ever.
