I'm glad this remaster exists to show everyone how absolutely underrated Oblivion was compared to the rest of the series.

Content wise, it's the most feature rich of the whole series. Best story too.

I've just beat all the major factions and I'm rolling around with about 6 companions hitting the main questline. Regret not doing Kvatch earlier with an easier level but what can you do.

Also take advantage of the DLC content early with Frostspire and the castle. Knights of the Nine is also a great questline to do early game.

I did the first Oblivion gate, but now I’m just about finished with the Mage’s guild. If I join the Dark Brotherhood and knock that out and then jump back into the main quest, am I screwing myself out of anything? I’m pretty sure I haven’t done Pilgrimage yet.

Don't think so. Oblivion let's you do just about anything in any order. Biggest risk is getting unique gear that gets tied to your level at the time.

You’re fine. I’ve posted it before in more detail, but in short, from a ludonarrative perspective, I actually prefer my Oblivion playthroughs to start with “lol, crazy as frick old man and his prophecies, glad I’m out of jail, let’s get settled in on the outside.” Then I get to the main quest when I get bored.

If you do it in the opposite order, it feels absurd to take a break from trying to save the world to help some weird women with her pet rats.

One thing I always do is go to the Ayleid ruin Vindasel and kill Umbra and get her sword. It’s the best sword in the game and can get it as soon as you’re able to kill Umbra. Which should be relatively early. All you have to do is get outside of the ruin and stand on top of the door and shoot Umbra with arrows until she dies. Now that takes about 100 arrows at a lower level, but then you have the best weapon. That’s part of the Clavicus Vile daedric quest. You don’t have to start the quest for anything to appear. You also don’t have to turn it in to complete the quest either. Just tell Clavicus Vile no and it’s complete. Which is important as you try to complete all daedric quests, so that you can unlock the Herma Mora one.

Pretty much

It’s not bad when the main arc is “minor”, like personal revenge in FO:NV. It’s moderate when you have a pressing, seemingly time sensitive, need to save yourself, like in CP2077 or BG3, or in any of the million games you’re trying to save a family member/loved one. It’s utterly immersion breaking for me when the main arc is saving the world/plane of existence/universe, so I try to find little head canon work arounds when possible, though it rarely is.

First time playing the game and I ended up doing this on accident, although I generally don't like using bows in games so I tried beating her with sword and shield and got destroyed. Ultimately decided to run away but these fricking enemies never give up. She ended up chasing me into town and got killed by soldiers

I've been using her sword pretty much ever since, and tried using the armor but it's so damn heavy for early game characters. Haven't figured out a way to overcome that
