This weekend was an absolute blast. Anyone else playing it?

Is this like OG Trials from Destiny 1? or the shitty Trials that existed during the launch of D2?

Some of the best times I had in my life were those late night/early morning runs to the Light House after the group was like "Alright guys this is our last card" for the fifth time. "Seriously I have to work in four hours"

I played a good bit on Friday and Saturday and had fun with the group I ran with on D1.

I did not enjoy seeing Hard Light for every match.

Still was relatively enjoyable.

Highlight was playing a dude from Bungie that had a teammate with a 3.5 KD or something wild like that in our sixth game. They beat us, but we still had our mercy.

They pretty much brought back Trials from D1. It’s 3v3 again. They even had the Burning Shrine as the map for the comeback.

D2 crucible just isn't in a good place. It was nice having trials back, but overall crucible just isn't well balanced. The P2P connections have been as bad as i've seen them in a while.

I can't believe they didn't touch snipers for pvp. They've needed a nerf for a while. I think they need to cut the Hardlight's magazine in half.

Overall it was refreshing to have back though.

Yep, without PvP then there isn't much staying power to keep players interested.

D2 PvP (Crucible) did get a little better, but still sucks compared to D1.

Oh yeah, they gonna milk it.

Sadly, Destiny COULD be an all time great. It is such a smooth feeling shooter.

Tbh I had no connectivity issues with it over the weekend. I think I ran into one dude that would randomly teleport, but we won the game.

I’m curious to hear what you would nerf with snipers, because they’re pretty much what they’ve always been in regards to their strength in the game.

I do agree on hard light. Gun is just awful, especially with the ricochet rounds.

Problem with snipers is more with regards to the revoker and the special ammo economy in general. I don’t mind too much right now though because there are still effective counters to sniping, but the aim assist on some of them is a little outrageous. I routinely hit headshots that I know I have absolutely no business hitting, and with revoker there’s no penalty on trying to pull off those crazy hero snipes. Without revamping the entire ammo economy, targeting aim assist is likely the most fair way to balance them at this point.

This meta is definitely better than where it was with the slight nerf to shotgun range, but as someone mentioned pvp is stil way outclassed by D1.

Overall enjoying the game, but something’s gotta give before D3 comes out. All of the interesting loot is locked behind Eververse for the most part, and there are still so many things D1 did better that somehow still haven’t made it into D2 yet.

They really need to work on the storytelling part of the game. All of the great lore is buried in the triumph and lore entry tabs instead of being presented to you in an engaging way. One new cut scene every 3 months is just garbage presentation and doesn’t even come close to some of the cool shite that’s presented in the lore entries (there’s one recently that came out on the gardener and winnower that goes into the morality of existence from a cosmic perspective and is extremely well written).

Also, everything I’ve seen and read indicates they really need to update the underlying code and engine. Probably a major reason why content and updates are currently drip fed every 3 months.

The grimoire in D1 was incredible if you ever took the time to read it. I miss that part of the game.

That’s fair somewhat. I hit some wild drag scopes with revoker as well and yeah there is a magnet on the opponents head.

Only thing I would argue is that it goes both ways. Every player can use the same weapons for the most part, so nobody is really handicapped as long as you’ve put in the work to get the weapon.

Right now is honestly one of the better metas I can remember. Aside from Widows Court I cant think of a map where fusions and shotguns, even after the nerf, haven't carved me up at some point in comp. A lot of people are just really bad at PvP that play Destiny and that makes it seem like a certain class of weapons are super unbalanced at times. In the past it was just that primaries were weak and specials just way stronger. Now there are multiple viable options in both slots and so I’ve been enjoying that.

The hard light meta won’t last, at least not if you keep playing Trials. A good player with a HC will still beat an auto user 9/10 times and very small percentage of the player base can actually use those effectively.

Couldn’t agree more. Auto rifles are actually in a great place and it’s so fun having double primaries being just as viable as primary/special loadouts outside of the sweatiest of the sweaty lobbies. Sidearms fricking slap right now and are such a fun CQ weapon especially with high mobility builds.

They killed my handheld supernova unfortunately but I’ll admit it was a necessary change.

The handheld supernova is one of several things that I still have no clue how to do

I’m honestly just bad all around with any kind of super.

It was the warlocks one hit kill grenade, not a super

Paired with a certain exotic, basically had huge damage reduction while charging grenade and nearly constant uptime. Was just way OP and super easy to cheese for free kills.

Regardless been having a ton of fun with nightstalker Hunter lately so it’s all good.

I do think my game might have gotten broken with the update. I've been having a ton of error message issues and my character was never showing a power level to my friends. it would silenty crash some as well after an error message. I was having a ton of hit detection issues. Seemed about 1/3 bursts with a pulse rifle wouldn't register at all. Did a re-install so we shall see.

I think the most realistic change that needs to be made is to add more flinch to them under fire. The good rolled ones, like Revoker, are basically glorified scout rifles at this point with how they can be used. I think their hit boxes need to be tweaked some as well, because there is some truly garbage stuff that still registers as a headshot. The aim assist is really off the charts with some of them. I pulled one out this weekend, not even a meta sniper with good rolls, just a shitty sniper I had.
Hadn't used one in well over a year, and was able to get some pretty absurd headshots with it, and I suck at sniping. Without changing the core setup of the weapon system though, those are probably to only reasonable tweaks that can be made.

I think the real correction that needs to be made is to the ammo availability in general. I'd much rather see snipers go to heavy weapons or at least like in D1, have the special drop in game like it did.

ETA: Big_Slim beat me to it.

The Ashen Wake Titan build needs to be nerfed as well, though it is nowhere near as cheap as the Supernova was.

If you can get someone's shield down to I think around 20% or so, the solar fusion grenade will kill them on impact, and the gauntlets will give you your grenade back. It is fun, but i can even admit maybe a little too much.
