Nintendo Switch - Buying for Family, Need Advice

So my 4 girls want a Nintendo Switch for Christmas. I'm not a gamer and some on the online data confuses me on this system. Looking for advice from some of you that purchased it, especially for family:
1) If I have 4 kids, should I buy an extra set of controllers? Does the system have games where 4 players play at once?
2) I see people talking about extra SD cards. Why would I need this? Is it strictly for downloadable games, etc?
3) What other accessories would you recommend? Those steering wheel controllers? An extra charging station if I buy another set of controllers?
Any other advice would be appreciated. Looking to purchase on Black Friday or Cyber Monday, but it doesn't look like too many deals are put there.

1) Be the GOAT dad, and get each their own Switch. They will probably want to customize their own stuff. The Switch is the type of thing you can also play on the go by undocking it. Not so easy for 4 people to share in handheld mode. You could buy 4 extra joy-con controllers, but keeping them charged will be a pain. Buying 4 Switches nullifies the need for this.
2) Switch doesn’t have much space built in. Most people buy a 128 GB SD card for downloading bigger games.
3) Wheels are good if you want to play Mario Kart. Otherwise, the Pro Controller is probably the best accessory. Carrying case can be good for travel, and an on the go charger.
You probably won’t find many deals for one for BF.

Thanks for the info. I'll try and do some more research. I guess my basic understanding of what the system is and does is a little off. So instead of this thing being like a Wii where multiple people play around a tv, it's essentially a handheld gaming device that also connects to your tv?
More handheld than console?
If I bought 4 units, would purchasing 1 game, either download or cartridge(or whatever the hard copy option is) be playable on all devices? Or would I have to purchase 4 games?
I wonder if my folks had this much trouble deciding whether to buy extra paddle controls for the Atari 2600...

The switch is essentially a Nintendo DS on steroids minus the extra screen.
Here's a few condensed pointers and things a few smarter game ranters would know better than me.
- 4 switches means 4 physical games. Even if downloaded straight from a Nintendo server, I don't believe 4 consoles can hook all to the same Nintendo ID. However I'd consult other ranters on that.
- As far as controllers go, I'd stay with the gimmicky joycon controllers. Not only do they have HD rumble, which essentially means if you're playing a game where you have to hold a glass of ice, you'll be able to feel that exact sensation on the controller, but they are also something more along the lines of what 4 little kids would enjoy.
- Games I would buy for your specific situation:
Splatoon 2
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
Arms
Super Mario Odyssey
Games I'd stay away from:
Skyrim
Xenoblade 2
I say this for reasons that all of those above mentioned games have either suggestive themes and references or politics and missions that would fly right over their heads. I mean they are by no means something that is too graphic and mature for a young audience to play, it's just a matter of intricacy and difficulty that I believe would take away from their personal enjoyment.
You can literally take the Switch anywhere on planet earth that you're not specifically barred from having it. In a plane, taking a dump etc. It is literally the perfect system for someone of their age. I hope I helped.

Too lazy to edit this late, but another thing to do would be to buy a screen protector for all of them as something like the Switch is like any tablet. Gonna break real easy if you don't have it prepared.
To be honest, you may pay more for the accessories than the switches themselves. We are talking carrying cases, screen protectors, memory cards that can reach maximum $110, console protector cases....it gets bad if your pockets aren't deep, assuming you get 4 of them. Good luck.

It's both. And it really depends on personal preference and opportunity. I've been having mine for a few months and I haven't hooked it up to my TV once yet. And I'm sure some people can't stand playing in handheld mode.
Just depends.

I play on the TV mostly, then play on my table or desk when watching football. Mostly in controller mode.
Then play handheld when I am out of battery in the controllers.

I would not buy 4 switches, but would definitely get another set of controllers.

I would get two systems, this would give you maximum flexibility. Multiple controllers, (4 total) multiple docks. Switches aren't married to docks, otherwise I would say get a Switch another set of controllers and another dock to maximize flexibility.
But you might as well get 2 Switches at that point. Switches aren't dock specific.

Yes, but a 128GB or even a 64GB should be fine. If you aren't getting the Dooms and LA Noire's, you'll be fine.

2 Switches would actually cover everything you need. Honestly. You could get a pro controller.

Switches are specifically not going on Black Friday sales, it's too popular right now. Games will be though, so use that to get Super Mario, Splatoon, Zelda, and Mario Kart.

I can't think of a suggestion. Maybe taking a bath in battery acid, but even that I'm not sure is bad enough. Let them explore and die repeatably. It builds character and they'll love it.

Can you race random people online multiplayer in Mario Kart?

Jesus Christ dude. I’ll admit I probably missed the mark in that one but chill.

*If* you buy multiple Switches, I can confirm that any purchases you make with your account on one Ssitch WILL NOT apply to other Switches. You’ll have to make a second account on the additional console and repurchase any games/DLC.
Got one for my kid. Got BOTW DLC #1 for her under my account. Bought myself a second Switch. Downloaded the DLC and kid calls to tell me her DLC is gone. So, only one system can hold your primary account purchases at a given time. It makes sense, but still sucks.
