I appreciate the thought, however question...if i wanted to get more RAM with lets say 4 X 8 GB ram later down the road, could I swap the 4 X 4GB later with those 2, and if more 4?

If you really want to add more later, I would get the 2 x 8GB, but you should not need 32.

16GB is pretty serious overkill right now.

Perfect, well sounds great man. I appreciate all the help.

I'll go ahead and switch the 2 X 8GB with the 4 X 4GB.

SG, what are your thoughts on the AMD 8 core. I know you're an Intel guy but be unbiased and give me an answer on what you have heard about them.

I am in the very early stages of planning my PC and just looking around for a few months before I spend the money.

Want a monster but not spending $2600 like you did.

Check out this CPU chart from Tom's hardware.

The best AMD's are not even in the same Tier with the Intel Core i3's

LINK

I admit I overspent on the PSU and the case fans for sure because I was going for as quiet as possible, and the PSU I bought should last for a good 6 or 7 years at least.

You could argue that I overspent on the RAM by going 16GB to.

The SSD was $300. The SSD are nice for load times, but do nothing for your frame rates, so that can easily be done with out.

Booting up Windows 7 in under 15 seconds sure is nice though

I don't care for Gigabyte stuff. Had a bad experience with them once.

What resolution is your monitor ? If you are running 1920 x 1080, 2GB is really nice if you like all the eye candy.

I was going to possibly use a new LED TV so...

I probably need to do this.

Do you mean Ivy Bridge ? Ivy Bridge runs cooler until you overclock. Ivy Bridge won't OC as well as Sandy at the high end.

My Ivy Bridge i5 is OC'd to 4.25 right now and is running at only 30 deg C.

The temps don't matter until you really start pushing the processor hard with OC'ing. Under normal use 3 to 5 deg doesn't mean a thing.

I bet that would look awesome. My only worry would be the refresh rate.

I need to get a long HDMI cable and some USB extenders and hook mine up to my LED TV one day just for giggles.

I am just reading up on things and I think if I go Intel it will be the i5 over the i7. Why did you go with the i5?

I need to look mine up and see what the refresh rate is. I have a 42" Samsung LED now but it's about a year old so I know there is something better out by now.

I can't game on anything that big though. I have tried with my consoles and it hurts my eyes. I game on a 32" Samsung LCD so I would possibly get about that in an LED for my PC if I can find one with the right specs.

The i7 has hyperthreading.

Almost no games make use of hyperthreading.

The 2 are only about 2 to 5 fps apart in benchmarks. Doesn't really matter when I am running BF3 maxed out at 100 to 150 fps.

The i5 costs $100 less.

I think most TV's are around 8ms. Maybe lower. A good gaming monitor will be 1 or 2 ms.

I guess that is technically the response time, not refresh rate.

Damn I just realized that $30 gets me all the cables I need to leave my PC where it is and plug it up to my TV.

IT IS ON!!!
