Long story short- Decided I wanted to play Rocket League again. Probably not a good decision but I'm bored and want to play a couple of games before I go to sleep every night.

Download Rocket league- same computer that I played it on 3-4 years ago, different SSD and GPU.

The. Game. Will. Not. Launch. It won't launch on Steam, it won't launch on epic game store.

I've tried literally EVERY trick that I know. I've researched this topic relentlessly for 3 days. I've reinstalled windows. I've updated everything that I would need to update. I've verified cache. Pretty much anything you can google- I've done.

The fricking game WILL NOT LAUNCH. I can play literally any game I want on steam/ubisoft/epic. Everything works perfectly.

I'm come to the gaming board a broken man. shite, I work in IT and this is beyond me. Has anyone had this issue before?

Define not launch. Like, you click play and nothing happens? Or you click play and black screen?

Click Play on steam- It says Launching - goes back to Play

Nothing shows up on task manager as a process being committed.

Turn it off then turn it back on

Serious answer: check your system logs to see if it is looking for a file that is no longer there or is in a different place.

Check and make sure no rocket league .exe processes exist. Assuming none show up, try to launch it and check the application logs. It should hopefully show an error there.

When you reinstalled windows, did you do a clean reformat or just reinstall windows preserving what was already on your hard drive? Something is definitely hosed with your install.

Try to remove the cache folder in \Documents\My Games\Rocket League\TAGame

then if that doesn't work try this
quote:

I had the same problem with my Steam version, but I SOLVED it when I realize that in my game launch options I had "-dx9". I don't know why that was there, but I deleted it and then the game launched with no problems

the game launch options are in:
-In Steam interface, click on "LIBRARY".
-In games list, right click on "Rocket League".
-Choose "Properties"
-Click "SET LAUNCH OPTIONS..."

try this, delete -dx9 from the launch options

another possible fix for the epic games version but not steam is
quote:

Had the same problem, this fixed it for me

Turn off cloud save and follow these steps

Click on the Folder Icon in the lower-left corner of the screen
This will open File Explorer

Click on Documents in the left-hand column

Double click on My Games

Right-click on Rocket League

Select Rename

Type Rocket League Old

Tap the Enter Key on your keyboard

3rd solution is to try downloading Microsoft visual studios C ++ 2015

Are you signed into onedrive by chance? Been a while but I think my RL profile would sync using onedrive and signing out would make it unhappy

Well I finally figured it out-

It's one of the first steps it asks you to do but I changed the wrong file name-

Apparently changing your rocket league folder's name in C/users/doc/mygames/rocket league solved my issue.
