My PS4 got short-circuited. No longer works. Buying Advice?

I want a new PS4. I have the original launch model. Should I just buy the PS4 pro? It's 350 on most retail sites.

I'm considering waiting until the PS5 comes out. Do you think it'll be cheaper then?

I have a gaming PC and I use the PS4 for exclusives. The FF7 remake is why I'm coming buying sooner.

That's a great deal. Thanks.

But ill pass on it. I prefer having Retailer receipts for consoles.

I thought buying used consoles, controllers, etc was nasty before this outbreak. More so now. Get everything new.

How do you know it got short circuited? Was there a power surge or something? What if anything happened before it died?

Have you looked at taking it to a repair store? They might be able to replace the fuse if it just popped.

It was a power surge.
I'm still upset about it. But now I know how many plugs my power converter can take.

Ive considered that. But honestly I think I'd just prefer the PS4 Pro anyway. I typically get updated consoles at some point after launch.

List some "symptoms". What is it actually doing?

I might be able to fix, for free, if local.

No surge protector? A good idea for expensive electronics in the future if not.

And as others have said, it's very possible that a simple, cheap part went out inside. A fuse or a capacitor or something. I watch lots of Youtube videos of people fixing broke consoles all the time. They buy "broken" consoles off ebay for dirt cheap and a large number of them are easily fixable and then they resell them for a nice profit.

The only thing they can't fix is if one of the main chips (CPU or GPU) got fried, at that point they just keep the console for spare parts to fix others.

There are people who offer such repair services for a fee too. I'm not sure their rates or what their policies are if they can't fix it. May be worth looking into. Buying a used PS4 might be cheaper or easier too. If you go that route you can always sell the broken one on ebay for like $80 or so, I think that's the going rate for broken ones.

Honestly. It's just not getting any power. I had it connected to a surge protector. But I heard a sharp noise (the noise that sounds like an electric spark or fuse blow) coming from the protector and the console just turned off.

Everything else seems fine with it. I think fuse blown is the best guess. I know a local game store that does console repairs who can look at.

I'd just order a PS4 Pro.

The PS5 and Xbox Series X are going to be delayed b/c of CV19 so the price isn't going to fall anytime soon.
