Modern Warfare 2 Beginner tips

I know I'm late to the party, but I started playing MW2 online last night and I'm getting slaughtered. Any tips/advice on what to do. I've been playing the team games and there seems to be no strategy, just running and killing. Is there a class or type of match I should be playing to cut my teeth. And is there a way to play a game with only people of comparable rank? Half the people I play against are level 60 or 70.

Play around with it and get used to the game building basic skills.
Then get Black Ops

stay on the edges of the map to reduce your blind sides until you get a hang of the maps. knowing all the corners of the maps and spawn points are key.

I got into Call of Duty a couple months before MW2 came out and played WAW. I thought it was the one everyone was playing and in fact didn't play the first modern warfare till a few days before 2 came out. It was great because I got awesome at WAW and then when MW2 came out I was WTFPWNING mother frickers and still do.
So I say jump on MW2 as soon as possible so you can be good for Black Ops.

Find corner facing a doorway. Crouch. Aim cross-hairs at doorway. When enemy enters doorway, spray until out of bullets.

Camp as hard as possible and use the noob tube. People will hate you and yell at you, but you may be positive
Use Noob Tube (grenade launcher) and Thumper, with Scavenger on so you never run out of grenades and have a field day

That is quite possibly the worse advice you can give him. So what is he supposed to do when Black Ops comes out and he has none of these things?

Yeah, I saw that but it wasn't me playing. My girlfriend likes to get on there and try to shoot people sometimes.

Play all of the Spec Ops missions, they will help you utilize all of the weaponry and get the hang of things. I played levels such as Sniper Fi, Bodycount, and Snatch & Grab often because I joined the MW train pretty late myself.
