I can't think of PS1 game that wouldn't play well on PSP. Only thing you're missing is a second stick, and that wasn't added to the PS1 controller years later.

Vagrant Story is a great RPG for the PS. The PSP should do fine with it.

Right now on my Vita I have FF7, Resident Evil 3, Legend of Dragoon, Parasite Eve, and Dino Crisis 2. I would recommend any of those. Also Dino Crisis 1, any RE game, Chrono Trigger (the PS1 port or SNES emulator) and Chrono Cross, or Xenogears. I think other FF games pre FF7 have a psx version.
