This a bigger than the Bethesda deal IMO.

In dollars? Yes, massively bigger.

From the perspective of interesting gaming content? No, at least not for my gaming tastes. Activision doesn't do much for me.

I guess in some alternate universe, MSFT is buying Bandai Namco or Square Enix, and they've revived Ridge Racer or Deus Ex for me!

Microsoft should just go ahead and buy Square Enix and Take Two.

They were both rumored last year.

Activision ruined WoW, in my book.
100%
After I got sick I tried to get back into the old version of WoW and it's just a hodgepodge of a mess, it doesn't feel anything like what vanilla to lich king was like. Classic is awesome, but it's not going to be worth playing once they get to Cataclysm Classic and it brings back the same problems they had that shed millions of subscribers. Paid mounts, paid boosts, a ridiculous amount of side-things to do to be competitive in raids - it all made it completely unattainable for players that have jobs and families and can't commit 5+ hours of gameplay per day.

I know this is more than just COD, but I think that IP is just too big. Microsoft won't take it 100% exclusive, but you can be your arse that Sony is going to have to start paying for every PS5 copy sold on future releases.

If they did this then they may actually have an issue being considered a monopoly. That would effectively kill Sony, which seems to be what they’re going for.

Microsoft is trying to force Sony’s hand in letting them put Gamepass on the PlayStation. And if that happens the Sony is basically admitting defeat. Because I think the Series X will end up being the last console Microsoft makes. In 5 years XCloud will be where they put everything.

People said this when they bought Bethesda but it’s exactly what they’re doing. They will make it Xbox Gaming exclusive so the only way Sony will be allowed to have it on their console is Gamepass. Sony has their balls in a vice. They know they can’t let gamepass on their console, especially since they’re working on their own streaming service, but this is going to make it extremely difficult for them not to.

We think alike, that is the same thing I just said on the OT thread of this.

Gamepass is their end game.

Bye bye Warcraft, at least any semblance of the OG version.

If this means the end of WOW, then that will be fantastic news.

Yep. Gaming is in a really interesting point in time. I do think more and more people are shifting to PCs as it becomes more accessible to the average gamer and the younger gamer is all about being tech savvy.

With COD, the best thing they did was create a battle royale and make it cross platform playable. It will be tough if they reverse course.

Personally I think COD has never been in a worse state so I am optimistic things can only get better with this acquisition.

Why? What do you care if people still play WOW? I haven't played it in years, but the fact is a shite ton of people still love it.

Exactly. The Sony subreddit is melting down and saying “they still don’t have the best exclusives!” or “they’ll never outsell Sony in console sales”

They either don’t realize or are just ignoring that Microsoft doesn’t give a shite about those numbers. They see the future and are investing heavily in it.

The Sony fanboys are also saying “this is such a dick and bitch move by Microsoft. They can’t beat Sony so they just buy all the developers”

As if Sony doesn’t do the exact same shite

People actually care about CoD?

There are 1000 better games lol

And WoW? It is utter shite now. They fricked it into oblivion.

There’s some really good games coming out this year. This purchase does nothing for me to worry about as a PS fan.

Is this a serious question? Of course there are better games but CoD is one of the largest gaming franchises in history.

People game for different reasons. Plenty of people just want to point and click with a console after work and talk to their buddies for an hour or 2. That's what COD is for most people.

I agree, that’s what I do. You can do that on any game though.

Honestly, those Sony fanboys should have seen this coming, considering Microsoft is worth over $2T

Microsoft is investing heavily in getting that monthly subscription cash flow coming in. $15/month over millions of subscribers.

Personally, I don't want to pay a monthly fee to play games. I already have enough monthly subscriptions.
