Craig Harrison killed the two insurgents from an astounding distance of 8,120 feet -- or 1.54 miles -- in Helmand Province last November firing an Accuracy International L11583 long-range rifle.

"The first round hit a machine-gunner in the stomach and killed him outright," said Harrison, a corporal of horse in the British Army's Household Cavalry, the equivalent of a sergeant in the American military.

HARRISON
"The second insurgent grabbed the weapon and turned as my second shot hit him in the side. He went down, too," Harrison told the Sunday Times of London.

The shots -- measured via GPS -- surpassed the previous record held by Canadian Army Cpl. Rob Furlong, who killed an al Qaeda gunman from 7,972 feet in 2002.

1.51 miles!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Even more impressive IMO

quote:

The previous record was held by U.S. Marine sniper Carlos Hathcock in February 1967 during the Vietnam War, at a distance of more than 2,347 yards (2,146 m) using a scope-mounted Browning M2 .50 machine gun

He didn't have the technology and scopes they do today. He is the daddy of all snipers

LINK

This one is neat too

quote:

On April 3, 2003, Corporals Matt and Sam Hughes, a two-man sniper team of the Royal Marines, armed with L96 sniper rifles each killed targets at a range of about 860 metres (941 yd) with shots that, due to strong wind, had to be “fired exactly 17 meters (56 ft) to the left of the target for the bullet to bend in the wind.”

NAH. im out. not fun for me really. I'll be perfectly ok with a win and a good K/D. hit 1.75 before the 24-20 game on overgrown.

plus headshot leader with a AR would be tougher IMO. especially iron sighted vs ACOG quick scope that gives it to you even tho u aimed 56ft to the side like the sniper guys above. WTF?
