should I upgrade my early gear or save it for better stuff?

Yeah, go crazy with it. The upgrade materials are separated up by region based on power level. So by the time you get through the first part of the game and get to the next power level cutoff, the early materials are already outdated anyway.

And as someone said earlier, all the weapon stats are effectively the same (save a couple with some fairly cool perks late game) so just find what feels best for you and pump upgrade materials into it.

The overarching mystery of the series is pretty disjointed game to game. They did a bit better job of that part in the recent trilogy but that’s not why people play. To me, I’d play based on settings you like and best games first.

AC1 - not the best, but started the whole franchise so worth a playthrough. Setting during the Crusades is cool. It’s miles different in gameplay from the recent ones.

AC2 - best protagonist and arguably best game

Black Flag - imo best all around and most fun of the series. Basically Pirates of the Caribbean with assassins. Naval battle is top notch, setting is amazing, controls are fluid, one of the best protagonists and story.

Syndicate - sleeper and different style than the others, but I’m a big fan of Victorian London so I enjoyed it.

Origins - ancient Egypt was fun but the protagonist is weaker and I found Odyssey much, much more enjoyable. This is the one most similar in gameplay to the latest two.

I’ve never played the rest of the Ezio trilogy with Brotherhood & Revelations but have read up and most love them, so I’d play those 3 back to back for best story.
