I would have figured the jump would have been much larger when you figure in certain factors.

This is really the first time any console gen has had people in their 20's/30's, who have disposable income, that grew up on gaming and are more apt to own multiple consoles.

It's also the first time you haven't had one console just completely dominate the market.

hell no. There are plenty of people like me who play video games for a few hours a month that aren't going to invest in a PC. I could give a shite if a PC is faster and looks better. I want something that is simple, cheap, and has the game series that I like to play: madden (or I'd welcome any football game that would replace it), gta, elder scrolls, etc.

How can you say you only play for a few hours a month then say you like Elder Scrolls? That's a series that takes more than a few hours a month to play and enjoy.

you think the big increase in sales has to do with online play? Def had a hand in bringing more people into gaming.

No. I think it mainly has to do with the first generation that grew up playing video games is now in their late 30's.

In 10 yrs those people will be in their late 40's and still gaming.

The pool of potential gamers will only continue to grow as every generation going forward will grow up in a culture that has accepted video games.

Good point and I agree.

I had quit playing towards the end of the OG Xbox and PS2 and got into this gen about 3 years late. The thing that made me get back into it was being able to play on Xbox Live with my nephew.

It will be interesting to see if it keeps growing this upcoming gen or sort of hits a plateau. If there is nothing really new driving it, like online play, then I think we may see some leveling off.

for you guys that have kids getting into gaming are you cool with dropping whatever it cost on a gaming pc for them rather than a console?

do you worry about the time spent playing games instead of doing something outside or whatever kids do these days? i know growing up i couldn't play in the day time, and idk if my parents would have sprung for a pc priced item if they weren't gonna let me play it all the time.

Good point, same thing that has happened with every technology. I remember when no one had a home computer or a cell phone.

Who doesn't have those now? Everyone has them, because people are growing up with them now. Same thing has happened with gaming consoles. Very few people don't have a 360,PS3, or Wii in the house, at minimum.

I believe tablets is where this trend will go next. In 10 years every kid in America will have a tablet.

For me anyway, price point isn't nearly the factor that making sure my kids do other things to is. Luckily , living on a farm we have plenty of options for outside activities for them. All of my kids are in the swimming pool every possible moment during the summer months , so the video game console just sits there unplayed.

I play games like that very slowly whenever I get an hour or so. I also NEVER finish them. The only non Madden/sports game Ihave completed in the last 5+ years is gta4.

Do you feel sorry for the state of decay fans as much as I do?

Because we get to play a game that isn't scripted/haxxed constantly? Yes, feel sorry for us

Don't get wrong, I'd love to be able to play everyday or even every week. But working 60 hrs, having a very young child, and training for triathlons usually relegates my gaming to the 10 pm-1 am on a Saturday night time slot.

I haven't run into much of that since I've been playing. Now I'm sure you had your fair dose in the past, but go to other maps besides cherno and its quite a pleasant experience.

Why would they make a DayZ imitation with no multiplayer?
