Insider gaming

Article above. They’re largely relying on who is and has been the most successful leaker in the RE community dusk golum. He isn’t always right but mostly is. There is a lot discussed in that article and some of it does get into some story spoilers. I won’t leak or quote that here but feel free to read

quote:

Resident Evil Requiem will also serve as the conclusion to everything that began with RE1, RE2, and RE0 (if players choose to include this game). The series will now introduce new characters, new types of horror stories, “without being tied down by the series history.” The team has faced several restrictions over the years, including tying all game elements to Umbrella, Raccoon City, and other locations.

quote:

They are also aware of the game’s framing device, the playable characters, and their roles in the game’s story, but not where their stories lead. The leaker also knows about the upcoming game’s central virus/infection, why they need Grace’s blood, and how everything ties to Umbrella.

Beware if you read below this quote in the article you will get specific story spoilers related to resident evil outbreak.

quote:

When asked about Capcom’s recent comments that stated Leon “is a bad match for horror”, the insider replied, noting it’s a “good thing” that “Resident Evil Requiem isn’t a pure horror game”. Golem added that the SGF reveal, the game’s press release, and other details have shown that Resident Evil Requiem will be a mix of horror and “high-stakes cinematic action.”

It’s not in the article but on X he draws comparisons to last of us 1.

And finally some news about the next remakes. Likely a longer wait that many want

quote:

In other news, the next Resident Evil remakes are expected to arrive in 2027/2028.

RE0 is a pretty cool prequel to RE1 imo, and Rebecca is a cutie, but its probably one of the worst RE games to actually play. The mechanics are absolutely awful, especially if youre trying to play single player since the game is really designed for Co op.

They did away with item boxes and you just could drop anything on the floor wherever you wanted and just had to remember where it was.

Those in the know seem to believe RE0 remake will be the next remake released. It depends which one gets across the line first between that and code veronica (one of my personal fave RE games)

It seems to make sense to me if you consider the remake of 2,3,4 a sort of trilogy of sorts. I think the next 3 will be RE0, code veronica, and RE1 in some order as all are sort of the neccesary backstory for wesker which would then allow them to move onto RE5

I can totally understand them wanting a reboot as the franchise is almost 30 years old and it's current cannon is convoluted and there's only so much wheel spinning you can do.

However they already just soft rebooted it recently.

7 had absolutely nothing to do with anything before it and they bolted on a completely different "Chris Redfield" at the end. It sorta proved you do do Residential Evil games without the main storyline.

People just want good, creepy horror games.

I am not sure how I feel about "new types of horror stories"

I am having RE6 PTSD

I think if they mean they want to transition the series into genre horror where one game might be zombies, then psychological, then sci fi, then body horror, etc that might be cool. But if they mean what that article sort of implies making RE versions of sony movie games I dont think thats going to fly.

Well, if they get away from their roots too much it will ruin the franchise.

I'm optimistically envisioning it as a more anthology horror series, where you can tell completely new stories, and maybe some of those stories get sequels, etc.

I think the concept of it is fine, and as far as prequels go it’s actually pretty good, because most prequels are usually shite.

I just think it’s such a tedious game to actually play. It’s almost like the game was designed to be anti fun when playing single player

I’d argue of any two RE games that every actually needed a remake it would be RE0 and Code Veronica

So RE 9 is basically a side story to.the events in RE 0,1,2,3? I kinda jumped around the artice to avoid spoilers.

I think it’s meant to tie the whole umbrella and story of 1-9 off and move forward.

Resident evil outbreak is going to be very important to this game as well, not many people likely ever played it but its lore is going to be deeply involved here.

I would highly recommend getting your hands on it and playing it. Its a fun game as a spin off type game of the PS1 era RE games and plays the same way as them. I think its specifically outbreak 2 where Alyssa Ashcroft was in it, the mother of the protagonist in RE9, but she might have been in 1 and 2 its been a long time

Just to make a new post since I added an edit above some might not see who already saw it.

I highly highly recommend you go play resident evil outbreak if you’re interested in this game at all (RE9). It’s a fun game. The character you’re most going to want to become familiar with is Alyssa Ashcroft but it’s a game where you can kind of choose who makes it out and who doesn’t, but she is a cannon survivor

As much hate as it gets, I really liked RE6. Gameplay was butter smooth and story was interesting. I just wish they would’ve had Jill in it. I was always curious about how they would show Jill adapting to being back in BSAA after wesker experimented on her.

The concept of RE6 I think was kind of cool. A globe trotting adventure with multiple interconnected stories featuring all of our fave characters.

Unfortunately it was executed abysmally imo. Leons chapter is the only one that is a bit above meh to me. And the 4th chapter as real ada is basically pointless.

RE games are usually just better the more focused they are. Like much of hte gameplay from 6 is pulled or an innovation on stuff done in revelations, but those were smaller spin off games that allowed for that type of stuff

btw Revelations 2 is another game I really really think RE fans should play. It is a lot of fun and the last time Claire and Barry where even in a game
