Not going to buy a ton to start but what are some good ones. Also, any other accessories that would be good to get with it?

Sort of obvious but pro controller since you mentioned accessories.

Is this a requirement for certain games rather than joy con?

I wouldn't think so but if you're going to be playing on a TV it's a much more comfortable controller.

Pretty much every Nintendo-developed AAA title is worth getting so I'm not even gonna bother mentioning those.

Beyond those, what do you like? How old are you? Do you like multiplayer? Do you have kids and/or a spouse who like to play?

Depends on what you want to play.

RPG / exploration? Zelda, either Breath Of The Wild or Tears Of The Kingdom

Racing / multiplayer? Mario Kart

Cutesy social / build your city game? Animal crossing

There aren’t many bad first party titles though some are better than others.

For the record, the top selling games on the platform are Mario Kart, Animal Crossing, Smash Bros, Breath of The Wild, Super Mario Odyssey, Pokémon Sword or Shield, Pokémon Scarlet or Violet, Super Mario Party, Tears Of The Kingdom, and New Super Mario Bros U Deluxe.

The only one of those I would generally avoid is Mario Party unless you are going to be doing a lot of multiplayer at home.

It's not a requirement but some people prefer them. I've never owned one.

Must have games in my mind:

Mario Kart 8
Breath of the Wild
Tears of the Kingdom
Smash Brothers Ultimate
Mario Odyssey
Mario Wonder
Mario Maker 2

Also, pay for the Nintendo Switch Online. It gives you access to retro libraries from a bunch of systems. It also gives you online multiplayer capabilities or something but I don't really use those.

No but the joycons were made for children, if you have big hands good luck.

I've pretty much exclusively used pro controller since launch, never really undocked it.

Mrs Vox's Switch is typically docked, but I got a pro controller-style grip for mine, as I play the majority of everything in handheld without having to deal with the invariable hand cramps from the joy cons

You don't have the thing that turns two of them into one full-sized controller?

Rt now might be a good time to snag a few, the switch games rarely go on sale or have price drops like Xbox and PlayStation.
