I posted this in the DOOM ETERNAL thread but believe it deserves it's own thread.

JRE #1441 - Creative Director of DOOM ETERNAL Hugo Martin

I'm old, 33yrs, so I'm rarely hyped about stuff. However, this game deserves the hype. I rarely get chills from trailers, go watch some on the YouTubes.

Joe was a tremendous dipshit throughout this interview. Great opportunity to pick the brain of one of the best creative directors in gaming, yet he chose to be an insufferable prick. Sad

Hugo is the man. This game is going to rock

A few times, yes, didn't want to mention it so ppl who might not be JRE fans here would still watch. Towards the end where Hugo is explaining the different "tiers" or "types", for lack of a better word, of violence.

Besides those issues, it was a really fun interview. Hugo is a good interviewee. Some of his comments and jokes cracked me up, was like one of us sitting down talking to Joe about gaming.

I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Side note, if you watched the latest fight companion for 20200314, Joe was a little "short" with the group. So wasn't anything, I believe, to do with Hugo. Eddie also brought up future comedy show cancelations, Joe took a sip of his drink and sad nothing. I surely hope the 2 Rogan/Chappelle shows in Nashville and New Orleans do not get canceled. Really looking forward to seeing Chappelle IRL.

I'm DL'ing right now to play the last few levels. I love, spoiler alert, how Angels might be playing more of a role. Yes, it sounds goofy on the surface but I have no doubt it will be well done. One of the coolest parts Diablo lore is the dynamic of the Eternal Conflict.

Replaying ATM. I'm still kind of blown away by .. well, everything. A lot of us talk about how GoW was a near-perfect game. DOOM 2016 should be in that discussion.

You have to admit, we were all blown away by how good of a game DOOM 2016 turned out.

This is gonna be fun.

As awesome it was, these were my chief complaints throughout 2016:

- Not enough environmental variety
- Arenas weren’t big enough
- Lack of gameplay variety/pacing. This is fine in shorter, more focused games. With doom, it started to get a bit tiresome towards the end (especially the last level or two)

Hugo has addressed all of these things in various interviews (he said he spent days and days reading and noting the complaints on forums) and assures us that all of that is fixed. In the noclip podcast, he said Eternal totally destroys Doom 2016 and that you won’t be able to play it again. There will be lots of different environments, big and vertical arenas, and lots of wrinkles in the gameplay to keep things fresh and iterative. Love his combat puzzle and chess piece analogies

I think Eternal has potential to be an all-timer for the genre

Yep

Hugo also brought that up. I forgot how much I would get cornered on those maps.

I agree with all your points.

I JUST turned 33 on Monday and I think I'm already having my midlife crisis...I don't need you reinforcing it with this type of shite. Keep it to yourself!

Also, I pre-ordered the Collector's edition for Doom Eternal...I'm really looking forward to the game, but I also wanted that damn helmet.

Got it as well. I bought 2 and sold one for $350 on eBay after they all sold out. So I’m basically getting it for $50 (a little more bc I have to ship it)

Can’t wait for this damn game. Huge fan of high mobility in shooters and the changes they’ve made with the super shotgun chaining and the dash look amazing. The way they’ve expanded the universe and lore thus far is just so cool too.

I'm a little disappointed we don't get ray-tracing at launch. Found that odd.
