Halo Infinite is trying to make a comeback

Anybody jumped into Season 5?
Played it last night and it felt great. Game was smooth, weapons felt balanced, and the new maps have a classic halo feel. It's looking like this game is going the route of the MCC, broken at the start but gets good after a year or so of updates based off of fan feedback.

Halo Infinite has re-emerged during this year’s shooter season alongside games like Battlefield 2042, as the Xbox multiplayer game has seen its highest concurrent player count on Steam in quite some time, likely due to the barrage of content that’s dropped with the brand-new Season 5: Reckoning.
Each new Halo Infinite season does see the FPS game’s player count rise, but it’s this newest season that has seen quite the spike. With loads of great additions to the game, Halo Infinite Season 5 Reckoning already has a peak of 18,007 players. This is around triple what the game typically gets.
The last time we saw anything near this was with the launch of Season 2 in May 2022, when we saw 21,403 players on Wednesday, May 4. Player spikes like this are expected around new seasonal content drops, but this is the best Halo Infinite has done in around a year and a half.

There's quite a bit of hype building around Halo Infinite Season 5 at the moment - and that hype is already translating into a healthy PC player bump for 343 Industries and Microsoft. We're not talking astronomical numbers here, but the Steam version of Halo Infinite surpassed 15k concurrent players yesterday for the first time since April 2022.

Does it have a ranked slayer mode with BR starts?

I downloaded it this morning. Figured I'd give it another chance for sure.

There's a ranked slayer playlist but I didn't play it yesterday
I think the starter right now is the new EVO version of the Bandit rifle

I haven't played since season 2. Is that the new ranked starting gun?
I like the game, I just wanted to waste time at night playing ranked slayer with a BR or pistol (H5) start. That is probably the only thing that will pull me back in.

Last time I played ranked it was BR and Bandit rifle without the scope
Might've changed with the new season though

I think that Infinite is just like Halo 5 guardians. It is a great multiplayer with a terrible campaign.
The openish world concept is actually really creative and I like a lot of what they did, but it really struggles for terrible writing, and integration of side quests elements. The area in the open world that also really baffles me is that there is zero change in the environment from zone to zone. It makes no sense, they tied it up perfectly for having 3 different habitats and it came back looking so basic by having just one zone.
I honestly think they could salvage some of that with DLC opening other zones up, but that does solve the writing.

Agree on a lot of that
I like the open world but yeah, I have no idea why they didn't put different biomes in this. Other games basically had em all. They also had a bunch of fauna planned and they took a lot of them out. It definitely would've made the ring feel less empty
As far as the writing goes, some of the dialogue with the Weapon could've been better, but I think they did as good/clean a job of retconning the story as possible given the corner they backed themselves into with Guardians. Not that the writing is groundbreaking, but it could've been way messier.
I'm intrigued by the Endless. I thought they did a good job of adding them into the Halo universe in an organic way.
Even though I like the Banished, I still wish the included some covenant imagery to connect the universe a little more. Plus, the purple/blue/green gives Halo a distinct feel.

And no exciting set piece battles. How awesome would it have been to actually fight that opening battle on board the Infinity.

What the max squad size? I’m looking for something with at least 5 like Overwatch. 6 would be better.

Arena modes are 4 vs 4
Big team battle is 12 vs 12
Squad battle is 8 vs 8

I liked it when it first came out, but it staled quickly.

Is there a way to play custom maps or do u have to get in the queue that just throws you in random game modes?
Posted on 10/20/23 at 10:38 am to LSU_postman
There's a custom games browser that let's you filter. Tons of custom maps and different game modes. I played one game in a Waffle House

New Bandit in ranked is kinda fun, better than the BR which just has too much range in this game

It's pretty good. Problem is I haven't played Halo in a long long time, I'm rusty. I'm getting my arse kicked.

They're coming out with a Halo 3 playlist in a partnership with Mountain Dew like old times.

If it had released in its present state it would have been a huge success, a real shame all of the companies release unfinished products these days expecting to finish/add stuff after release.

While there are several developers that do that, nobody royally fricks a launch like 343 has done for every. single. launch.

I really, really hope that we get a BR start on those H3 maps.
Fully anticipating to be disappointed, but man I would play the shite out of Lockout, Guardian, and others with a legit starting weapon.
